Cary Fukunaga has signed on to direct an upcoming movie adaptation of the dystopian sci-fi comic, Tokyo Ghost, coming from Netflix. The 10-issue Image Comics series was written by Rick Remender, drawn by Sean Murphy, and colored by Matt Hollingsworth in 2015 with a possibly unfinished ending.
THR reports that Fukunaga will helm Netflix's feature film based on the cyberpunk series. The True Detective director recently directed the latest Daniel Craig James Bond movie, No Time to Die, which is on its way for a premiere this October. Before producing True Detective's much-discussed season 1, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the filmmaker directed a haunting rendition of Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in 2011. He later directed Beasts of No Nation and Netflix's Maniac miniseries.
The adaptation is being developed by Legendary Entertainment, the production company behind Godzilla vs. Kong. Fukunaga will also produce with Hayden Lautenbach via Parliament of Owls, the production company behind The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. Remender has been brought on to write the screenplay. No casting announcements have been made.
