Staying alive is essential for stage completion in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, and one way to ensure the player characters survive is by healing teammates. As an action, retro-arcade beat 'em up, Shredder's Revenge requires players to encounter a slew of enemies during each level. Sometimes, it will only be two or three hostiles that spawn into a zone, while other areas have dozens of enemies that swarm the Ninja Turtle brothers in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Accordingly, it is crucial that players understand how they heal their allies and restore their HP to remain decisive in battle.

Healing another teammate in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a mechanic known as "Cheer Up." Although it might sound cheesy, this mechanic is vital for clearing the more challenging levels of the game. To Cheer Up an ally, players must stand next to their teammate and press the LB button on their controller. Naturally, this default configuration applies to Xbox and PC controllers, as Switch and PlayStation might have a different setup. Nevertheless, when this action is performed, the two player characters will give each other a high five, activating the healing power of camaraderie.

However, the Cheer Up healing action does not come free of cost in TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. Whenever players execute a Cheer Up, the one who initiates the high five will replenish their ally's HP by two points while losing two of their own in the process. In other words, healing a teammate is more of a transfer of HP rather than a "free heal." Still, it is a convenient and effective method of helping allies out of a tough spot or preparing for the next combat encounter.

Cheer Up can be performed without limit during missions up until one player only has two remaining HP. Therefore, a good strategy would be to balance out every teammate's health pool to ensure the best chance of survival.

Alternatively, there is another way to heal in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge that does not involve sacrificing another player's HP. For a character to "self-heal," players can consume healing Pizza Powerups in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a type of pick-up item that will restore one's HP without any disadvantages. Pizza Powerups often appear throughout the level as blue pizza boxes with a green cross symbol on their lid. To consume this item, players can simply walk over during or out of combat. However, keep in mind that only one user can eat a pizza at a time. Unfortunately, the consumable cannot be shared.
