The return of popular spin-off 90 Day: The Single Life is right around the corner, but many fans couldn’t be less excited, and it all has to do with TLC’s terrible casting decisions for season 2. For years viewers have complained about the same unlikable cast members recycled throughout the franchise. Now, for some reason the network has rounded up some of fans’ least liked cast members to headline the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off. In the eyes of fans, TLC may have botched The Single Life season 2 before it even started.

Earlier this year, TLC debuted The Single Life and the spin-off was mostly well received. Though the season 1 cast included some controversial franchise alum, most viewers found the show entertaining. The show featured cast members from the franchise whose relationships had ended in heartbreak and were now looking for love yet again. It was no surprise that the show was green-lit for a second season, and recently TLC released information about the upcoming season. Natalie Mordovtseva and Big Ed Brown were confirmed for season 2, along with many other unpopular show alum. The upcoming cast has caused a backlash among fans and it’s not hard to see why

The obvious problem with season 2 is that the network cast so many disliked cast members and should have known better. It’s not like these are new cast members—they’ve already been endlessly discussed by fans, and even a cursory search would reveal how unpopular some of the season 2 cast were in previous seasons. Some of them, like Stephanie Matto, fans find irritating and don’t want to see on the show again. Others, like Big Ed are actively boycotted due to problematic behavior. It seems common sense for the network to avoid cast members with petitions against them, but TLC clearly had other ideas.

When casting a new season of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise shows, it’s impossible to make all viewers happy. However, there are some cast members who are almost guaranteed to upset the majority of viewers, and some of those cast members are going to be on The Single Life season 2. It seems most likely that TLC did this as a way to create drama, but drama doesn’t equal entertainment, and the "buzz" that the network was trying to generate has been mostly negative. The network’s casting choices for The Single Life season 2 have angered viewers, and TLC may regret it.

90 Day: The Single Life season 2 is fast approaching, but the sentiment among fans is more dread than excitement. TLC’s casting decisions can only be described as baffling, because so many of the returning franchise alum have already gotten on viewers’ bad sides, and the show hasn’t even started. Season 2 is poised to be a disaster, and many fans can’t wait to say "I told you so" to the misguided network.
