With 90 Day Fiancé, fans come for the chance to witness love conquering all, but stay for the vast amounts of drama. Over the course of several seasons and numerous spin-offs, the TLC reality show has featured a long list of unexpected plot twists. While there's a fair share of couples who seem to avoid turmoil, most of them are invariably shrouded in controversy.
Be it during or after the show, the cast members of 90 Day Fiancé have faced backlash online, run-ins with the law, cheating scandals, and dozens of other complex troubles that continuously shocked the fans of the show.
Jay's Tinder Adventure
Fans will certainly remember this season 6 couple, who will go down in the history of 90 Day Fiancé as one of the most troubled. Although some were rooting for Jamaican Jay Smith and his American bride Ashley Martson, the red flags were there all along.
Although this was far from the only scandal surrounding Ashley and Jay, the Tinder controversy is the most memorable. Audiences couldn't help but feel for Ashley when she found out Jay was trying to get together with other women on the dating app Tinder - the day after they wed.
Anfisa & Jorge's Entire Relationship
It's a known fact that 90 Day Fiancé's DNA is 90% drama and conflict, but there was one couple, in particular, that seemed to take this notion to the next level.
Jorge and Anfisa are no longer together, but audiences still have a hard time forgetting their trainwreck of a relationship built on lies, constant yelling, and insults.
Erika & Stephanie's Controversy
Erika Owens and Stephanie Mattowere were the first LGBTQ+ couple to ever be featured on 90 Day Fiancé, finally affording the show some much-needed representation. However, the couple's run wasn't free of controversy, as fans were quick to note the lack of connection and affection between the two.
There was a lot of speculation around whether or not the relationship was real, and Erika admitted that the couple didn't share a lot of time together beyond what was shown on TV.
Azan Shaming Nicole
When fans first met Nicole, they were instantly taken by the puppy love she clearly had for Azan. However, the relationship was off to a rocky start and it seemed to just go downhill every time the two were together.
Many still have trouble forgetting how Azan constantly shamed Nicole for her weight, making her feel terrible in the process. The two seem to be better off without each other.
Mark's Past (& Lawsuit)
Many saw Mark as a walking red flag once he introduced his 19-year-old bride to be to the world. But the enormous age gap wasn't the strangest thing about the whole ordeal, but rather the fact that his previous wife was also from the Philippines.
His portrayal on the show was far from benign, and Mark didn't seem to appreciate it, given that he went on to try and sue TLC. Due to the contract he signed with the network, though, the case went nowhere.
Luis' Hasty New Marriage
Luis and Molly had one of the most roller-coaster relationships on the show. The season 5 couple were no strangers to arguments, and their marriage was as successful as one would expect.
After only six months, the pair called it quits, but Luis didn't seem to have a lot of trouble moving on. A mere five months after his divorce to Molly was finalized, he married again.
Lisa Hamme Banned From The Show
Before The 90 Days introduced fans to Lisa Hamme and Usman Umar, an unlikely couple that consistently entertained fans who were curious to see where everything would lead.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. Lisa was extremely jealous of the attention other women showered her rapper fiancé with, and she took to Instagram to express her rage, which included the use of racist and homophobic slurs. This problematic behavior quickly got her banned from the show.
Larissa's Arrest
Larissa and Colt got harder and harder to watch, as the couple couldn't seem to get through a single conversation without starting to yell at each other. However, the controversies didn't end there for the Brazilian reality star.
Larissa Lima was arrested twice following altercations with Colt, and the second time around, he filed for divorce.
Jason's Domestic Abuse & Arrest
It wasn't a surprise to anyone when Jason Hitch and Cassia Tavares ended up getting a divorce, but what led to the eventual demise of the relationship was the most controversial part.
Back in early 2017, Jason was placed under arrest after Cassia called 911 following a physical altercation where he pushed her off the bed and left a mark on her arm.
Big Ed Accused Of Sexual Assault
Big Ed found no fans amongst the 90 Day Fiancé audience following his terrible treatment of Filipino fiancée Rosemarie Vega and his constant stream of lies throughout his run on the show.
His controversies, however, wouldn't end there. A TikToker accused Big Ed of sexual assault, claiming that the reality star 'groomed' and 'manipulated her'. He's yet to respond to the allegations made against him.
