The Titans season 1 finale made the same mistakes as The Walking Dead. Wanting to get in on the streaming trend, DC Entertainment launched their dedicated DC Universe digital platform in September, which gives its subscribers access to a library of movies, TV shows, and comics. But, most importantly, DC Universe is meant to be the service of original DC Comics-related content going forward, which began with Titans - created by Akiva Goldsman, Greg Berlanti, and Geoff Johns - this past October.

Starring Brenton Thwaites as Robin, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, and Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Titans is the first live-action adaptation of the superhero team of the same name, taking place in a fully-realized superhero universe filled with iconic superheroes, like Superman. But the series remains far-removed from the core DC characters, and instead focuses on uniting the Titans team for the first time and dealing with Raven's father... except that Titans season 1 doesn't do either thing.

Leading up to Titans' season 1 release, it was never revealed just how long the season would be. However, it was deduced that the season was supposed to be 13 episodes long, which was then cut down to just 11 episodes, with "Dick Grayson" serving as the season finale. Unfortunately, that meant ending Titans season 1 on a cliffhanger. Something changed along the way, and the producers ended up turning the season 1 finale into the season 2 premiere, hence all of the Titans reshoots that resulted in two seemingly complete episodes either being chopped up or removed.

Titans Season 1 Finale Dick Grayson Batman

The Titans season 1 reshoots streamlined the story around Dick Grayson and heavily altered the finale so as to draw viewers back for Titans season 2. While the episode itself wasn't bad - though it left many questions unanswered - ending on such a cliffhanger that leaves an entire season's worth of build-up on a single story unresolved is the same mistake that The Walking Dead made with its season 6 finale, which saw Jeffrey Dean Morgan make his debut as the series' villain, Negan. It just shouldn't have happened - and the producers could've done better.

As people may recall, The Walking Dead fans were forced to wait until the season 7 premiere to find out who Negan killed, and while the episode attracted millions of viewers, it cost them millions more in the long run. Ever since then, The Walking Dead's ratings have been on a downward trend, and that's partly because of the multiple fake-outs and cliffhangers that the series' producers have pulled over and over again on the audience. With regards to the Titans season 1 finale, the episode the producers used was entirely unrelated to the core story and left the main plot completely unfinished. In the end, it may cost them viewers who wouldn't be interested in seeing it wrap up in season 2.
