Here's everything revealed so far about Titans season 4. Beginning on the ill-fated DC Universe streaming service, Titans offered a more mature take on DC's sidekick superheroes, away from the supervision of their grown-up mentors. Titans season 1 focused on forming the core group of Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), Starfire (Mame-Anna Diop), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and Raven (Teagan Croft), culminating in a battle (sort of) against Trigon. Titans season 2 pretty much started over, pitting the team against Deathstroke, adding Joshua Orpin as Superboy, and transforming Dick from Robin into Nightwing.

When DC Universe amalgamated into HBO Max, Titans season 3 found itself a brand new home, and the same can be said of the heroes themselves. Relocating the action to Gotham City, Scarecrow emerged as Titans season 3's main villain, the titular gang developed into a tighter crime-fighting unit, Savannah Welch debuted as Commissioner Barbara Gordon, and Curran Walters morphed into the violent Red Hood. Titans season 3 concluded in October 2021, and viewers will be eagerly awaiting news on Titans season 4.

Though reviews initially touted an improvement over previous runs, Titans season 3 reaction became more mixed week-on-week (Kryptonite dust and Nightwing being flown away by bats probably didn't help). Streaming originals also rarely run beyond 3 seasons, so Titans was far from guaranteed a future on HBO Max. Nevertheless, here are your Titans season 4 news and updates.

Titans Season 4 Is Happening On HBO Max

Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson in Titans

Rejoice, fans of testosterone-fueled superhero drama - Titans season 4 has officially been confirmed. Ahead of season 3's finale, Titans future was assured as part of the show's DC FanDome 2021 panel. Brenton Thwaites himself (with a little help from an unseen young passenger) announced from the driver's seat of his car that Titans season 4 was green-lit for HBO Max. There's no release date quite yet, but given the COVID-related production delay between Titans season 2 & 3 - and, of course, the grim possibility of further setbacks - an early 2023 premiere is a reasonable guess.

How Titans S3 Sets Up Season 4

Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson Nightwing and Curran Walters as Jason Todd Red Hood in Titans

Titans season 4 doesn't have a cliffhanger ending it desperately needs to resolve. Nightwing and the gang thwart Scarecrow's plot to kill the citizens of Gotham City, and Raven uses the Lazarus pit's nightmares to ensure Crane remains out of action permanently. Nevertheless, Titans season 3's finale leaves a trail of breadcrumbs for future storylines. The main action will return to the Titans seasos 2 setting of San Francisco, with Nightwing leading his team against even more wicked criminals, while also training Tim Drake as the next Robin. Donna Troy will remain separate, working with Vee as a member of ARGUS, and Dick's comment about Jason Todd leaving Gotham suggests Red Hood will resurface alongside his old friends in San Francisco.

In Titans season 3's finale, Vee reveals ARGUS has been keeping tabs on Ra's al Ghul, after the Batman villain placed a Lazarus pit in Gotham City as part of a "larger plan." This would imply Titans season 4's main villain is Ra's al Ghul himself, and he'll have an ax to grind with Dick Grayson's Titans after they drained his Lazarus bath to heal Scarecrow's victims. Finally, Titans season 3 ended the relationship between Dick and Barbara Gordon, paving the way for Nightwing and Starfire to rekindle their romance.

Titans Season 4 Cast: Who Will Return?

Titans Season 3

Given that he was the one who made the announcement, it'd be a bit embarrassing if Brenton Thwaites wasn't back on board for Titans season 4 as Nightwing. He'll almost certainly be joined by other original members Starfire, Beast Boy and Raven, and the remaining superheroes who jumped aboard Dick's RV in Titans' season 3 finale - Superboy, Jay Lycurgo's Tim Drake and, of course, Krypto the dog. Though Jason Todd's future is ambiguous, Curran Walters hyped up the Titans season 4 announcement on social media, strongly suggesting his character will return. Wonder Girl's ARGUS tease hints toward future plans for her, and if so, we'll likely see more of Karen Robinson's Vee also.

Less certain is the fate of Barbara Gordon. With focus moving away from Gotham City and Dick's eye wandering, the Commissioner may not have a significant role in Titans season 4, and likewise, Iain Glen's Bruce Wayne might find himself surplus to requirements. Minka Kelly's Dawn sat out the majority of Titans season 3, and there's little suggestion of a homeward flight on the cards for Dove. Blackfire's return to Tamaran could write her out of Titans season 4, but that final kiss with Superboy leaves the door open for further developments between the pair.
