WARNING: This article contains major SPOILERS from Titans season 2, episode 13, "Nightwing."
DC Universe's Titans season 3 may possibly revive one of the characters that got killed off in the season 2 finale. The 13th episode of the recent season, titled "Nightwing," was a major one for the DC Universe series. After having spent a whole season establishing the history of the Titans, Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) took on one of their biggest foes as he and Deathstroke (Esai Morales) had a final showdown. While Slade was killed by his daughter Rose (Chelsea Zhang), the iconic Teen Titans baddie wasn't the only one to get killed off. Once the finale moved on to focusing on Superboy (Joshua Orpin) and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), it was time for a hero to die.
The trailer for the season finale had teased that one of the Titans wasn't going to survive the events of the finale. It turned out to be Donna Troy aka. Wonder Girl (Conor Leslie), one of the original members, who was destined to die. The heroine sacrificed herself when catching a damaged transmission tower that was falling on Dove (Minka Kelly) and several civilians. One of the final plots of the finale sees Rachel (Teagan Croft) leaving with the Amazons to take Donna's body to Themyscira in hopes of resurrecting her. While it did seem to leave the door open for Leslie's return, the actress may have accidentally confirmed Donna's resurrection.
During an appearance on DC Universe's DC Daily fan show (via DC TV Brasil) the actress implied that Titans is perhaps bringing back Donna sooner than people realize. While it is evident that Leslie realized halfway through that she possibly gave away a major spoiler, the actress said, "This is interesting because the whole Troia storyline has yet to be explored [on the show]."
Whether it would be a straight adaptation of The Return of Donna Troy that leads into Donna becoming Troia, remains to be seen. Having Donna go from Wonder Girl to Troia would be similar to Dick leaving his identity as Robin behind to become his own hero in Nightwing. It would also be fitting in Titans season 3 as the series has aimed to have some of the iconic sidekicks live outside the shadows of their respective mentors.
Details are currently limited for what's in store for the show's third year. The finale set up the idea of Blackfire (Damaris Lewis) being the potential big bad for next season as Starfire's (Anna Diop) sister is now on Earth. Should Leslie indeed be back for next season, it will most likely be kept as a secret as much as possible. Production on season 3 will be taking place sometime within the first half of 2020 as Titans will be back on DC Universe in the fall.
