The Arrowverse has introduced multiple shows with different individual heroes as well as superhero teams. But it might be easy to forget that the Titans are also a part of the Arrowverse, albeit they appeared only briefly in the crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths and otherwise stay separated from other heroes. The Titans originally only had a handful of heroes, including the first Batman's Robin, Dick Grayson. But by the time the end of the second season came along, the team has become much larger and included other superheroes, a new younger generation of them.

These days, the team is full of young and older heroes who don't always get along, but all have amazing special powers. Even though each member is different, their origin stories often have something in common, more precisely, their tragic past. Anyone who loves the superhero team will no doubt interested in knowing the characters' backgrounds and who they were before they became members of the team.

Jason Todd

Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson Robin and Curran Walters as Jason Todd argue in Titans

Unlike his predecessor Dick Grayson, Jason Todd was a much more unpredictable Robin. He met Batman when he tried to steal the wheels of his batmobile. Batman took care of the orphan, but Jason's rebellious nature made it a true challenge. Bruce then asked Dick to train Jason, and that's how the young superhero came to join the Titans.

Jason means well, but he sometimes doesn't act in the smartest way (such as when he unknowingly led Gar to Dr. Light and Deathstroke), but it's easy to understand where he's coming from, considering the loss of his family.

Ravager

Rose Wilson with an eyepatch in Titans

Even better known under her civil name of Rose Wilson, Ravager had a difficult childhood. Her father, the infamous assassin Slade Wilson, trained her, though she didn't always get along with him. Combined with Rose's powers, she's a force to be reckoned with.

However, she still worked for Slade when she infiltrated the Titans, and she only later switched sides, stood against her dad, and saved her brother. Rose is the ultimate proof that people can turn things around, no matter how dire their circumstances seem to be.

Hawk

Titans Hawk and Dove sit together

Even before becoming a superhero, Hawk had athletic abilities since he used to be an excellent football player. Unfortunately, Hank had many struggles which hurt him and his relationship with Dawn.

Despite all the challenges he faced, Hank still became one of the founding members of the Titans, which is pretty impressive.

Dove

Dove holds Hawk's face in her hands on Titans

Dove realized long ago that being a superhero doesn't come easily. Like Hawk, she struggled with her traumatic past and had to deal with the loss of her mother. Their shared pain (Hawk lost his brother) brought them closer, but Hank's tendency to act based on his emotions rather than logic also drove them apart at one point.

However, Dove has still done well for herself. She was one of the founding members of the Titans, and she remained a kind and caring person who is easy to like.

Wonder Girl

Titans Season 2 Wonder Girl talks to Aqualad

Donna Troy, aka Wonder Girl, is one of the few heroes who met their untimely end on the show. Before that happened, Donna used to live with the Amazons. Wonder Woman took the girl in after an arsonist had killed her father. The Amazons trained her and gave her the Golden Lasso to use against her opponents.

Flashbacks from the past revealed that Donna was in love with Garth, aka Aqualad, but it didn't come to fruition since he was killed soon after acknowledging their feelings for each other. Her tragic past makes Donna one of the more sympathetic heroes.

Beast Boy

Titans Season 2 Gar Logan and Dick Grayson

What many of the Titans characters have in common are their complicated lives. Gar Logan was an orphan who became sick. Niles Caulder helped him and brought Gar to America, where he became a member of the Doom Patrol - until he decided to leave and join the Titans.

Gar isn't too happy about his abilities, but his friendship with Raven gives him hope that things could be better in the future.

Superboy

Superboy sitting at a table with a gun aimed at him

No character on the show had an idyllic childhood. But Superboy had no real childhood at all. The Cadmus Laboratories actually created him by mixing Lex Luthor's and Superman's DNA. Connor, as he's also known, grew up in the laboratories under the care of Eve Watson.

As a result, when he managed to escape Cadmus (saving Jason Todd in the process), he knew very little about the world around him.

Nightwing

Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson Nightwing Titans

Nightwing's origin story is well known to anyone who reads Batman comics. Originally a sidekick of Batman known as Robin, Dick Grayson decided to later go his separate way. That caused a lot of tension between him and Batman. In the Titans, Dick did fairly well for himself.

He was one of the founding members of the Titans; he then became a police officer and was also moonlighting on the side as a costumed crime-fighter. However, his traumatic past and loss of his family stopped him from creating stronger bonds with people, at least until he met Raven and his other new friends.

Starfire

Kory Anders is upset after a ship explodes in Titans

Starfire's origin wouldn't be out of place in any complex sci-fi film or a TV show. She's an alien warrior princess who comes from the planet Tamaran. Her origin gave her a lot of powers, such as the ability to emit thermal blasts at an energy that come in very handy when she fights her enemies.

Starfire originally came to Earth to kill Raven, but she lost her memory and started protecting the young girl instead. Her history and her complicated relationship with her evil sister all make for a compelling story.

Raven

Titans Raven talks to other characters

Raven's complicated family situation makes it easy to empathize with her. As a daughter of the demon Trigon, Raven never really fit in. When her powers manifested properly, and her adoptive mother was murdered, Raven fled her home and sought out Dick Grayson.

She later got to meet her biological mother, but it wasn't a happy reunion as it turned out her mom was working with Trigon - who ended up killing her. Raven then had to fight hard to banish her demonic father away. For such a young person, she's certainly been through a lot.
