Respawn Entertainment, now better known as the studio behind the wildly successful battle royale game Apex Legends, has purportedly started development on Titanfall 3. Though earlier entries in the Titanfall series thrived in their own right, Respawn has remained focused on Apex Legends, which took the gaming world by storm when it released in February 2019.

That attention has been fairly obvious, given that Apex Legends has seen dozens of content updates, including new legends, new maps, and new game modes. On the other hand, the Titanfall series seemed to linger in the background. Titanfall 2 still has a consistent base of players that continue to gun each other down in the mech-centered FPS, but it has been close to four years since fans have seen any news on a new Titanfall title. Even in recent memory, Respawn has indicated that they've left Titanfall on something of a back-burner, not necessarily intending to scrap the series, but also not initiating development on a sequel. This state of limbo, however long and uncertain it has been, may after all change.

According to a Dexerto report, the existence of Titanfall 3 may be very real. The article cites a September 26 tweet from streamer TheNeon_Beast that stated, “Titanfall 3 is for real. I’m pretty sure leakers can say the same, cuz we have totally different sources. The good thing is: even with different sources, the rumor is exactly the same.” In response, Biast12, an Apex Legends leaker and data miner, echoed the rumor, effectively throwing in his confirmation that Titanfall 3 is or will be coming together soon. Unfortunately, both tweets have since been deleted.

These rumors, while encouraging to Titanfall fans, are still rumors with no definitive or official grounding from Respawn. As of now, Respawn has not gone public with their intentions regarding the Titanfall series, though Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn, has indicated that he does have at least some interest in revitalization. That may sound promising, but without any official indication, it might be safe to assume that a new entry in the series is still in the distant future, especially with Apex Legend's continued success.

But one can hope that Titanfall 3 might come sooner rather than later. After all, Apex Legends became an overnight success with extremely little publicity. The day before its release, Apex Legends was almost entirely unknown, and in the days and weeks following release, it captured the attention of FPS and battle royale fans everywhere. Who's to say that this won't be the case for Titanfall 3?
