Screen Rant has received an exclusive first look at a new boss from Tiny Thor: iconic trickster god Loki. Slated to release later this year, the upcoming 16-bit platformer takes great inspiration from both Norse mythology and retro games. Tiny Thor's gameplay will take players through a large assortment of platforming levels and boss battles, which they'll fight through utilizing their trusty hammer Mjölnir in a variety of ways.

New images from Tiny Thor have revealed a first look at the protagonist's confrontation with Loki. A press release detailed that the conflict between the two Asgardians lies in Loki's scheme to bring on Ragnarök, and when met with Thor's resistance he uses "vile magic to deceive and battle" him.

The new images of the boss fight show Thor utilizing his hammer in multiple ways, including a distanced shot that fires multiple projectiles at once towards the trickster god.

More About Tiny Thor

Tiny Thor is designed to give players an increasing amount of abilities over time, and considering the impressive multi-shot heading Loki's way, it seems like many of these will likely have to do with Mjölnir. This is meant to incorporate more modern mechanics while still keeping the overall retro inspirations, which comes through in the game's art style. Henk Nieborg, who worked on the Spyro series, helped provide art for the game, and clearly had a strong creative direction in mind to make the title look familiar yet distinct in its own right.

Tiny Thor Wouldn't Be Complete Without Loki

Besides Thor himself, Loki is arguably the most noteworthy figure from Norse mythology. Considering he's one of the characters players will be most familiar with, Tiny Thor just wouldn't be the same without the inclusion of Loki. Although there's still much more context to be learned about exactly what role the trickster plays in the game, a well-known character like him will certainly enhance the overall mythology of the game.

In recent years, games based on Norse mythology have become increasingly popular, so it's important that any new titles tackling the theme set themselves apart in some way. With its 16-bit style, expanding hammer abilities, and creative use of Norse characters, this upcoming platformer certainly seems to achieve this distinction. Players will be able to tackle Loki and many more enemies when Tiny Thor releases later this year.
