According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Carell and Tina Fey are loosely attached to star in a new feature film called Mail-Order Groom. The pair will also be co-producing the movie through their respective production companies, Carousel Productions and Little Stranger, Inc.
THR describes Mail-Order Groom as the story of a desperate and naive single woman (Fey) who buys an Eastern-European mail-order husband (Carell). The idea for the film originally came from Fey's husband Jeff Richmond, but the script was written by Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri. The screenwriter team of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa) are currently working on a "light" rewrite of script.
While Fey and Carell are currently attached to the project, there is no guarantee that they will end up as the lead actors. As the THR article points out, both Fey and Carell are the anchors on two very successful television shows (30 Rock and The Office). For the pair to star in the film, they would have to shoot the movie the very narrow time frame when both of their shows are on hiatus. When you factor in that Fey and Carell will also be doing publicity for their upcoming comedy, Date Night, it seems like a stretch that they will be able to free up the time to shoot the movie.
Personally, I think it would be a real shame if Fey and Carell couldn't find the time to make this one. They're two of my absolute favorite comedians, and I think that Date Night is going to prove just how funny they can be together. Of course, there are plenty of other comedic talents in Hollywood, so maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world if they only end up being co-producers and not co-stars.
What do you think? Does the plot of Mail-Order Groom sound amusing to you? Would you like to see Fey and Carell team up in another movie besides Date Night?
