The story was seen as somewhat uneven by some critics, which made it hard to be fully engaged. But Cooper's strong visual sense and a central performance from Christian Bale in one of his underrated roles helped to elevate it to a gripping and intense western adventure.

Netflix's The King sees Timothée Chalamet take on the role of Hal, a reluctant heir to the English throne. Hal has spent most of his life living among the commoners, but after his father dies, Hal is forced to become King Henry V. The film follows Hal as he attempts to learn the politics of the court and correct the sins of his father.

While some critics felt the overall movie doesn't add up to anything overly impressive, there are some standout aspects to applaud. Chalamet's lead performance as the brave yet arrogant young ruler was seen as one of these positive elements, as was the movie's rich take on the source material.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as an engineer who leads a team of scientists and explorers into the cosmos in order to find a habitable planet for humans away from earth. Chalamet has a small role in the first act as the son McConaughey leaves behind on Earth.

The movie was seen by most critics as another achievement for Nolan, combining strong visual elements with a thought-provoking story. While they acknowledge some of the ideas make for one of Nolan's most confusing movies, it is still the kind of thrill that audiences have come to expect from Nolan.

The Netflix project follows Jabari, an up-and-coming artist who has a chance encounter with a photographer that makes him wonder if he has time for love in his life. Chalamet plays Jabari's drug dealer friend Jimmy.

With a unique look similar to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's acclaimed animation style, critics enthusiastically called Entergalactic a sweet and fresh romantic comedy. It offers a vibrant visual energy while also telling a grounded and engrossing human story.

Greta Gerwig made her directorial debut with another charming coming-of-age story. Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan plays the titular character, a rebellious young girl whose plans for her future clash with her caring but judgmental mother. Chalamet is a great addition to the wonderful supporting cast, playing one of Lady Bird's young romantic pursuits who turns out to be less romantic than she hoped.

Though there have been countless stories of young people struggling with heading into adulthood, critics found that Lady Bird was a fresh and insightful take on the subject. Gerwig's funny and touching script was highlighted alongside the many great performances led by Ronan in an Oscar-nominated role.
