Oscar nominated actress and Empire star Taraji P. Henson is set to star in a new film adaptation of Alessandro Camon's award-winning play, Time Alone. Camon will also be directing the film version and has notably worked on various feature films in the past. Camon has written films such as The Messenger with Woody Harrelson, and Bullet to the Head, which starred Sylvester Stallone and Aquaman's Jason Momoa. The play originally ran in Los Angeles in 2017, where it received the Stage Raw Award and Critics' Award for Best Play.
According to Deadline, in Time Alone, Henson will play the character of Anna, the mother of a police officer who is murdered in the line of duty. Henson, who has appeared in other popular adapted dramas, such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, was quoted as saying that "Camon’s unique outlook on social injustices and a fractured society offers a new look at empathy and compassion." Regarding his collaboration with Henson, Camon also said, "I look forward to going on this journey with two phenomenally talented, fierce, and fearless actors like Taraji, whom I long admired."
Being the Ricardos producer, Todd Black, is set to produce Time Alone with Suzanne Warren. Meanwhile, Emanuele Moretti will also produce, and his Motus Studios will finance with Oakhurst Entertainment’s Jai Khanna and Marina Grasic. Verve Ventures and Motus will also co-represent domestic rights. Moretti's Motus Studios is next producing Deep Six, an action thriller starring Smallville's Tom Welling and Cam Gigandet that is being led by director and writer Scott Windhauser.
Time Alone tells the story of Anna, and Gabriel, a young man convicted of killing a gang rival. Their parallel journeys bring them to the world’s most lonely places: the silent house of a grieving mother and a solitary confinement cell. The drama is said to explore the issues of justice, social isolation, and the possibility of forgiveness. With Black, Henson will produce via her TPH Entertainment banner, with Marni Rosenzweig via The Rosenzweig Group, and Khanna. Marina Grasic, Christine Conley, Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek are also executive producers.
