Tim Robbins Is NOT In Iron Man 2 After All

Last December Screen Rant reported on the rumor that Tim Robbins would be playing Tony Stark's father in Iron Man 2. It was said that Robbins would play Howard Stark in an important flashback scene in which Tony was just a boy.

I must admit when I first heard this rumor I thought it was a good idea. Robbins has proven before, specifically with The Shawshank Redemption, that he has some serious acting talent, and adding that to a superhero flick like Iron Man 2 isn't at all a bad thing.

This rumor doesn't just come to us as some sort of "counter debunk rumor" to throw us off the trail a bit - but straight from the horses mouth, Tim Robbins: The rumour has been officially debunked.

Check out the short video of what Robbins had to say on the matter:

Well, there you go.

If I'm to be honest I'm kind of disapointed - since Stark's father would presumably only be in there for one or two flashback scenes at the most, I don't see why Robbins couldn't play him. Now that's not saying it was even in the cards for him, but since it was mentioned (albeit as a rumor), I was kind of looking forward to seeing him in there.

At least we have Mickey Rourke as the villain of Iron Man 2... just imagine if that turned out to be untrue!

Are you disappointed that Tim Robbins won't be in the film after all? Or did you dislike the idea when the rumor first emerged?

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 7th, 2010 release.
