Tim Drake may have settled the argument on who the best Robin is by solving the ultimate Batman mystery. When the Bat-Family believed Bruce Wayne was dead, it was Tim who first realized that there was more to the case than it seemed.

The DC Universe practically stood still when it appeared the Batman had fallen to Darkseid's Omega Sanction in Final Crisis. It was a dark time for the Bat-Family, but despite the shared grief, everyone was forced to move on. Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne kept Gotham safe as Batman and Robin while Barbara Gordon began mentoring Stephanie Brown as the new Batgirl. It seemed that everyone was able to pick up the pieces and adjust to the new status quo. All except for Tim who, despite all the naysayers in his crew, insisted that Batman was actually alive.

With Damian assuming the role of Robin, Tim Drake became Red Robin and starred in a series of the same name by Chris Yost, Ramon Bachs and Marcus To. Flashbacks in Red Robin #1 show that the night Tim Drake was ousted from his position was the night he realized Bruce Wayne was still alive. This is followed up on in Red Robin #12, which shows Tim stumbling upon a portrait of Bruce from the 1800s and coming to the conclusion Batman is actually lost in time. Interestingly enough, neither Dick Grayson nor Damian Wayne even entertain the notion until after they realize the corpse Batman left behind in Final Crisis was actually a clone created by Darkseid. After taking in Bruce's portrait, the duo come to the same conclusion Tim reached months earlier.

Tim Drake Robin Realizes Batman is Alive DC Comics

When this story takes place, Bruce is indeed temporally displaced and is shown posing for the portrait in Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #2. Tim's amazing deductive skills help Dick and the entire Justice League realize that Bruce is popping up in various points in history, accruing Omega Energy with each jump. Had Tim Drake not come to the conclusion that Batman was alive, Bruce would have amassed so much energy that he would have blown a hole in time and space itself.

Tim may not have Dick's charm or Damian's brutal fighting skills, but there's no doubt that his powers of deduction are on par with the Dark Knight himself. After all, he figured out that Bruce Wayne was Batman, something no other Robin can claim. Tim put his abilities to the ultimate test by figuring out the mystery behind Bruce's death, and because of him, the Justice League was able to prepare for an event that could have shattered reality. Being a good acrobat or a decent fighter is a good asset for a Robin to have, but Tim Drake proved that his keen mind gives him an edge compared to his fellow Batman sidekicks.
