Megan Fox gets handcuffed to her deceased husband in the upcoming horror movie Till Death. Other than her early appearances in the Transformers franchise, Fox is perhaps best known for her lead role in Jennifer’s Body. Released in 2009, the film was a blend of supernatural scares and black comedy directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody. Fox played Jennifer Check, a popular cheerleader that gets some alone time with an indie rock band. The experience changes Jennifer. This is quickly evident since, when Jennifer goes looking for something to eat, she ends up vomiting black fluid. It’s also evident by the trail of dead bodies she leaves in her wake.

The movie was met with a mixed reception. While some, including the late Roger Ebert, enjoyed the feature and found that it was far better than advertised, many reviewers observed that Jennifer’s Body lacked any real suspense and wit. In the decade since its release however, it has received a reexamination. With a newer set of movie buffs reassessing the project, Jennifer’s Body is now regarded as something of a feminist classic with themes and ideas which tackled issues central to the #MeToo movement. Till Death, Fox’s first foray as the lead in a horror movie since 2009, might be poised to tackle many of those same issues.

According to Screen Daily, Fox will play Emma in Millennium Media’s Till Death. Left handcuffed to her dead husband as part of a sickening revenge plot, Emma must survive two hired killers on their way to finish the job. The project, described as a high concept horror thriller, will begin shooting in March in Bulgaria. Jason Carvey wrote the screenplay, which was found by Millennium Media on The Blood List. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the writer of Aquaman, in addition to The Conjuring sequel, will produce the project alongside a team of producers and executive producers.

Functioning similarly to The Black List, Blood List is a survey of unproduced thriller and horror scripts voted on by industry professionals. Films starring the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ryan Reynolds, and Anna Kendrick have resulted from the list. Notably, the screenplay for Netflix’s smash hit The Bird Box was a top-rated choice on Blood List in 2014. This could bode well for the chances of Till Death to resonate with audiences.

One thing that will almost certainly bode well for Till Death is that movie criticism, and even marketing for movies, has changed a lot in the last decade. Reflecting on Jennifer Body’s initially muddled reactions, Diablo Cody confessed that she disagreed with advertising efforts to lure in a male audience through titillation while ignoring girls that might be interested in seeing the movie. With films like Us and The Nightingale, horror has evolved to welcome different voices more prominently and more frequently.
