TikTok has improved its Green Screen effect through a partnership with GIPHY that makes it possible to add GIFs as backgrounds. While the social media platform is known for its funny, viral videos, and being a great place for like-minded individuals to come together as a community, the popularity of TikTok has exploded over the past several years, and particularly during the pandemic.

In spite of this increase in usage, TikTok has not been without its issues. For example, there have been a few instances of dangerous trends and challenges appearing on the platform. TikTok says it's committed to doing more to reduce the number of incidents, and in reality, TikTok is hardly the only social media app nowadays to face content moderation issues. Still, one of the effects that has proven very popular for trend videos is Green Screen.

TikTok is now making the Green Screen effect even better. Announced in a press release, TikTok has partnered with GIPHY to make available a wide library of GIFs that can be used as video backgrounds. In announcing the feature, TikTok said, "whether looking for the perfect reaction GIF or showcasing an iconic meme, GIPHY in Green Screen unlocks exciting new opportunities for creativity and storytelling." Users can add any of the new GIFs by simply accessing the Green Screen effect in the same way they did before, and then tapping on the GIPHY button that's now been added to the interface.

Previously, the Green Screen effect was limited to just photos and videos. Essentially, the user would record a video and the TikTok app would add the chosen photo or video as a background. With the addition of GIFs, the TikTok creator now has the ability to include a popular GIF behind them while recording a video. Considering the popularity of the Green Screen effect, opening more options for backgrounds is only likely to result in even more unique and creative videos being published on the platform.

In addition to the new GIPHY integration, TikTok has also introduced a few other minor upgrades. For example, TikTok now offers creators a one-tap enhancement feature that, presumably, uses an algorithm to determine how a video should look. This change should prove useful for those new to video creation or those that don't have a lot of time to dedicate to editing videos. TikTok is also increasing the upload video quality to 1080p for crispier meme or rant videos. However, creators will need to tap the More Options button on the Publishing page and then toggle on Upload HD to get the full 1080p resolution. Overall, these new updates should enable creators to create better content and make browsing TikTok an even more enjoyable experience for viewers.
