John Cho, Kunjue Li, Christine Ko and Tzi Ma are set to star in Tigertail, a multi-generational drama for Netflix from Alan Yang, co-creator of Master of None. Tigertail joins a growing slate of Netflix Originals, as the streaming service moves closer to its goal of offering 50% original content.

This month will see the release of Searching, an experimental thriller told entirely through phone and computer screens, in which Cho plays a man desperately searching for his missing daughter. He also recently had a regular role in season 2 of Fox's horror series The Exorcist, but he's perhaps best known for playing Sulu in Paramount's rebooted Star Trek movie franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cho is set to star in Tigertail, with Christine Ko (The Great Indoors) playing the female lead. Tzi Ma, who is known for playing General Onada in Amazon's alt-history series The Man in the High Castle, will also star as the male lead, and Deadline reports that Kunjue Li (Ripper Street) has joined the cast as well. The story "touches on themes of regret, longing, passion and repression while spanning continents and generations from 1950s Taiwan to present-day New York City."

Alan Yang will write and direct Tigertail, which is being produced by Charles King and Kim Roth through their production company MACRO - one of the studios behind recent indie hit Sorry To Bother You, as well as Netflix's period drama Mudbound, which scored several nominations at this year's Oscars. Yang (whose parents are from Taiwan) based the movie partly on his own family's experiences, further exploring the first-generation American perspective that he brought to critically-acclaimed comedy series Master of None.

Asian-led dramas are making a breakthrough in Hollywood at the moment, with John M. Chu's Crazy Rich Asians opening big at the box office (a sequel is already lined up), and Netflix's teen romcom To All The Boys I've Loved Before winning plenty of fans upon its recent release. Critics have praised Cho's performance as a leading man in Searching, so Tigertail will definitely be worth looking out for when it arrives on Netflix - which will presumably be some time next year.
