Andrew Garfield becomes Jonathan Larson in the latest trailer for Tick, Tick... Boom! The upcoming Netflix film adapts the autobiographical musical of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jonathan Larson. Garfield stars as Larson, who is also known for creating the smash-hit musical Rent. Just as that musical was beginning its first preview performances in 1996, Larson died unexpectedly of a heart condition at the age of 35.

Another Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Lin Manuel Miranda (In the Heights and Hamilton), has always considered Larson one of his biggest influences and has expressed interest in directing a film adaptation of Tick, Tick... Boom! for his feature directorial debut. That wish has now come to fruition with a script from Steven Levenson (Dear Evan Hansen). Tick, Tick... Boom! follows Jon (Garfield), a struggling theater composer who is waiting tables while also trying to create the next great American musical. The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Bradley Whitford, Alexandra Shipp, Tariq Trotter, and Tony Award nominees Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, and Judith Light.

Now, another look at the upcoming musical is here. Netflix released the second trailer for Tick, Tick... Boom! ahead of its release next month in select theaters and on the streaming service. The trailer introduces Garfield as Larson before he created Rent and is still working at the Moondance Diner. The trailer showcases much of the cast, along with some of the film's triumphant musical numbers. Watch the latest trailer for Tick, Tick... Boom! below:

The second trailer's tone is noticeably different from the first Tick, Tick... Boom! teaser that Netflix released this past June, which featured a ticking sound effect throughout and heavily emphasized Jonathan's race against time. That is undoubtedly an element of the second trailer, but the focus seems to be much more on Larson's life and the film's musical numbers. The artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic during this time is also hinted at when Jonathan looks at a "Silence=Death" poster and is heard saying, "I went to three friends' funerals last year." The AIDS epidemic is expected to act as a backdrop for the film.

Considering Larson's untimely death before Rent became a hit, Tick, Tick... Boom! is set to be an emotional experience for viewers. The film knocked it out of the park with its casting, including Andrew Garfield in the lead role, who won a Tony Award for Angels in America in 2018. Vanessa Hudgens is also remembered for her various musical appearances, namely the High School Musical film series. The wait for Tick, Tick... Boom! is also over as it releases on November 19.
