Angelina Jolie takes on her most daring role yet as a smokejumper in the upcoming thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead. Thanks to her career-defining roles in films like Girl, Interrupted and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jolie stands as one of Hollywood's most well-known actresses today. However, in recent years, she has become very selective with her projects, only appearing in a handful within the past decade. 2021 will see the release of two major films for Jolie, with Those Who Wish Me Dead arriving first and Marvel's long-awaited Eternals slated for the fall.

For Those Who Wish Me Dead, Jolie will play smokejumper Hannah, an expert firefighter still coping with a loss she was unable to prevent while on the job. While stationed at an isolated fire tower, Hannah crosses paths with a 12-year-old boy named Connor (Finn Little), who is on the run from two hitmen (Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen). Hannah must protect Connor from the assassins, the harsh wilderness, and a raging wildfire. Directed by Taylor Sheridan, Those Who Wish Me Dead is based on Michael Koryta's 2014 novel.

Those Who Wish Me Dead is Jolie's first major project since 2019's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and it already looks like the ideal spotlight for her talents. Jolie has a history of starring in heart-pounding action flicks, and a mad dash for survival through a burning forest sounds as thrilling as they come. Additionally, Sheridan has established himself as the go-to filmmaker for modern Westerns, with his work on Hell or High Water and the Paramount Network series Yellowstone being praised over the years. Between Jolie and Sheridan, Those Who Wish Me Dead is bound to arrive on a cloud of high expectations.

The film also stars Tyler Perry and Jon Bernthal. It will be one of the many Warner Bros. movies debuting both in theaters and on HBO Max, meaning it will be quite interesting to see how it performs. A trailer for Those Who Wish Me Dead will likely emerge online soon to help drum up excitement for its May release, and it can give a better idea of what audiences can expect from this fiery flick.
