The script for Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok is now online, and it confirms that the ship that shows up in the film's mid-credits scene is indeed Thanos' ship. As was the case with the mid-credits scene for Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World and Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, the third and final chapter in Marvel Studios' Thor trilogy builds directly into Avengers: Infinity War, which is coming from Captain America: Civil War directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo.
Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston are all confirmed to reprise their roles as Thor, Hulk, and Loki, respectively, in this summer's Infinity War. And seeing as they were all last seen together aboard a starship along with hundreds of Asgardians heading toward Midgard (Earth), audiences may be wondering just how they end up separated, as is shown in the Infinity War trailer. Hulk crashes inside New York's Sanctum Santorum, Loki is seen presenting the Tesseract to Thanos, and Thor winds up meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy after floating in space for some time. While people have theorized that Thanos appears in Thor 3's mid-credits scene and destroys Thor's starship, leaving the group in shambles, that detail has finally been confirmed.
The Walt Disney Studios' awards-season promotion for Thor: Ragnarok includes a For Your Consideration campaign for Best Adapted Screenplay. The script - written by Eric Pearson and Craig Kyle & Christopher L. Yost - is online, and it's revealed at the end that the ship that comes into view when Thor and Loki are talking is Thanos' Sanctuary-2. It reads: "Then through the window, they see THE MASSIVE FORM OF SANCTUARY-2, THANOS’ WARSHIP approaching."
This news was previously confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, whose word should effectively be taken as scripture when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but seeing the confirmation come from the script itself means that having the ship be the Sanctuary-2 was the plan all along. This also means that Thor, Loki, and Hulk will be the first major MCU characters to encounter the Mad Titan Thanos and his loyal Black Order in Infinity War - and the results of that conflict have already been revealed in the upcoming film's first trailer.
While many details about the upcoming film already known to the public, Hemsworth recently said that Infinity War's first trailer doesn't give too much information away, meaning there's a lot to be unearthed when Thanos comes knocking. Of course, fans will want to see how that conflict teased at the end of Thor: Ragnarok plays out on-screen, but we'll just have to wait and see if it's included in the movie at all.
