Thor: Ragnarok Comic-Con Trailer Breakdown & Reveals

Hela Comes Home

After a brief splash screen announcing the film's release date, we get to see some additional new footage of Hela. This time the voiceover is hers, proclaiming "Asgard is dead. And it will be reborn, in my image..." as we get scenes of her battle with the Valkyries and her battle against the Asgardians. There's a little footage from the first trailer, but a good portion of this is new. "I thought you'd be glad to see me..." Hela says, and then we're treated to an explosion burning through the streets of Asgard. We also get a closer look at Skurge during this scene, as he appears yet again by Hela's side.

We're Putting Together a Team

"We have to stop her here and now, to prevent Ragnarok... the end of everything..." Thor explains. The video cuts back and forth between Thor talking to Banner and scenes of Hela, with her showing off more of her power in what appears to be the battle against the Valkyries. She spins, smiling, as swords slowly fly up toward her enemies, before we get another shot of the explosions in Asgard. Continuing his conversation with Banner, Thor then says " we're putting together a team." After a quick Super Powerful Bros fist-bump, we hear "Like the old days!" as the action cuts to a Valkyrie sword being slid into its sheath and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie beginning to walk confidently down the Rainbow Bridge as some of Hela's troops run at her.

From here, we're treated to a quick shot of Hulk in his gladiator armor, followed by an armorless Hulk flexing his chest. We then cut to Loki, who's bound by chains... as the music softens for a moment, he says "Surprise!" as Thor, Valkyrie and Banner look on from the doorway. "This will be such fun," Loki says as Thor walks into the room, just before the group's escape begins with Thor crashing through a window.

The Grand Escape

A sequence that appears to be part of the group's escape from the Grandmaster's world begins, showing Valkyrie with two swords before cutting to Thor and Loki using high-tech guns to shoot at some of their captors. There are explosions, the Hulk battling a giant wolf (possibly Fenrir from Norse mythology?) in Asgard, and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster himself repeating his "He's a fighter!" line from the first trailer. We then get a glimpse of Skurge with two assault rifles, the Kronan warrior Korg from the "Planet Hulk" and "World War Hulk" storylines in the comics, and finally the actual escape on the ship that we saw earlier in the trailer. Banner is at the helm while Valkyrie mans the guns; there's a lot of destruction that follows.

What Are You God of Again?

Several quick cuts of the action follow, showing conflicts between Thor's group and Hela's troops. Hela's voice is heard over the chaos, saying "I'm not a queen, or a monster... I'm the goddess of Death." When the quick cuts finish, our four heroes line up on the Rainbow Bridge to face off against Hela. "What were you the god of again?" she asks, a bit of derision in her voice. We're then greeted with heavy lightning striking in and around Asgard, while Thor leaps forward on the Rainbow Bridge and electricity runs over his skin. As he looks up, his eyes are glowing with the power of the lightning. The scene then cuts to the film title.

Hulk Talks!

After the title, we're given one last scene. Thor is sitting beside the Hulk, who is wearing beaded necklaces. "We're the same, you and I... just a couple of hot-headed fools." Surprisingly, Hulk answers back, saying "Yes, same. Hulk like fire... Thor like water." Hulk talks like a child, but it's obvious that his time in control has led to him growing smarter than we've ever seen him before (which might not take much, honestly). Thor tries to correct him, saying that he likes fire too... to which Hulk replies, "But Hulk like RAGING fire, and Thor like smoldering fire." Thor laughs slightly, just before the scene cuts to the Hulk leaping into battle against the giant fire demon Surtur.

The screen cuts once again to the release date, closing out the trailer and leaving fans wanting to see more of that Hulk/Surtur fight.
