The San Diego Comic-Con marketing blitz has already begun, with banners for Marvel’s Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok spotted in the streets ahead of next month’s event. Every year, one of the biggest expos in the entertainment industry is July’s SDCC. Not only does it offer fans a chance to meet the creatives behind comics, shows, movies, and more, but it offers the world exclusive looks at new and upcoming projects from some of the biggest studios and networks. In the past, it’s seen the announcement of new films and the reveal of trailers and footage from films, and this year will likely bring much of the same.
For Marvel fans, it’s extra exciting as Marvel Studios is presenting its films at SDCC this year – something that hasn’t always been a guarantee in the past. With Marvel having the clout to host their own presentations and parent company Disney holding their similar D23 event each year, Marvel hasn’t always had a big presence at SDCC. Luckily, things will be different this year, and we’ll likely get more extensive looks at the upcoming films Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok. And while their presence was all but a sure thing, we know now it’s definitively happening.
A Twitter user has posted a photo from San Diego, showing that Marvel have already rolled out marketing for their offerings. Outside the convention hall, posters for Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok have gone up. And though they don’t offer any new glimpses of the films, they do assure fans that more will be revealed soon:
The Ragnarok banner is sadly just an image of Thor we’ve long seen in marketing for the film. The Black Panther one, meanwhile, looks to be either a new mask for the hero or some concept art. The Black Panther teaser trailers ends with a shot of a noticeably different mask for the eponymous hero, so perhaps he’ll have multiple looks during his upcoming solo movie.
We know Marvel will be bringing costumes and props from both films to D23, but fans are hoping for a bit more at Comic-Con. By the time Comic-Con rolls around, Spider-Man: Homecoming will already be tearing up theaters. It’s also been some time since we got our first teaser for the new Thor film, so a full trailer release is plausible, what with the film arriving in November.
Another possible reveal could be the location of the final Infinity Stone. So far, the Soul Stone is unaccounted for, and we should see it in either Ragnarok or Black Panther. Comic-Con may offer more details on that front, setting up the unification of the Stones in Avengers: Infinity War.
