Chris Hemsworth's time as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be coming to a close, as the actor thinks his next appearance should be the end. Hemsworth's Thor is one of the last remaining members of the original Avengers team in the MCU. Thor: Love and Thunder once again drastically changed the trajectory of his life, as Thor adopts a daughter and regains Mjolnir after Jane Foster's death. Thor 4's ending indicates that the god of thunder is stepping into a new phase of his superhero journey, one that could soon reach a heroic and definitive conclusion if Hemsworth gets his wish.

During a new interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth addressed the topic of a potential MCU exit for his original Avenger. The outlet asked him if he was hoping to get a conclusion for Thor's MCU story after seeing Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America receive sendoffs from the franchise. Despite previously saying he is quite interested in continuing to play the god of thunder, Hemsworth's tune has changed. He now suggests that Thor's next MCU appearance should be the last and potentially give him the death of a hero.

Yeah, for sure. I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know—am I at that stage? Who knows?

How Thor's Story Could End

Marvel Studios has plenty of potential ways for Thor's MCU story to end. Thor: Love and Thunder heavily sets up how the franchise can continue without Chris Hemsworth by making Natalie Portman's Jane Foster Mighty Thor. The film did end with Jane's death and her arriving in Valhalla, but the Asgardian afterlife is not as permanent as most. Marvel and Hemsworth could be on the same page about it being time for Thor Odinson to die. Thor 5 or another future MCU movie could see Thor sacrifice himself to bring Jane Foster, Heimdall, and all the other loved ones he has lost back to life. This would give Thor an Iron Man-like heroic death potentially.

There is also the chance for Thor's MCU story to end without him dying, leaving the door open for Chris Hemsworth to come back at a later date if he or Marvel desires. For all the adventures that Thor has gone on during the MCU, he has never truly been given the opportunity to take his place as Asgard's king. Thor's story could come to an end with him taking his people off Earth and setting up a new safe haven for them. This would allow Thor and the Asgardians to go to an undisclosed place in the MCU until Marvel Studios might need to utilize them again.

Of course, if Chris Hemsworth wants a heroic death for Thor in his next appearance, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars could deliver. There have been plenty of theories that Thor could die fighting Kang the Conqueror in either film. These movies might also be a chance for Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston to exit the MCU together after Thor and Loki reunite through the multiverse. Since Marvel Studios is quite collaborative with its biggest stars, there is a good chance that Chris Hemsworth's Thor will leave sooner than later now.
