[Update: The Thor Trailer has been released!]
It's been a big week for major sci-fi movie trailers with the launch of the first official teasers for Real Steel and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Tonight, we add another in the form of the first official trailer for Thor.
Marvel released a brand new Thor poster yesterday as a precursor this evening's trailer reveal and to round off the beginning of the Thor marketing push, the tie-in Thor video game will be officially unveiled tomorrow at the Spike Video Game Awards.
Outside of some stills, toys and a magazine cover, the only real Thor footage we've seen is from the very early-in-production video shown to us at the Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel. That five-minute extended trailer leaked online but it didn't last long. Tonight that all changes when we get our first official look at director Kenneth Branagh's work with Marvel's God of Thunder.
Until then, we have this new poster which simply features Chris Hemsworth in full Thor armor, wielding the mighty Mjolnir.
You can't easily judge a superhero's costume from a still photo but to fans of the Thor books, it's hard to believe that after so many years of reading off the page, that Thor is actually right there, red cape and all.
Thor represents the third superhero solo movie for the young Marvel Studios, after having introduced Iron Man and re-introduced Hulk. That only leaves Captain America before we can see them and others come together for The Avengers. And this is all just the beginning of the path down Marvel's currently planned movie schedule up until 2017.
Check back in with Screen Rant soon and make sure to visit Game Rant for the action-packed Thor video game trailer. I saw lots of very cool concept art for the game and if you're a fan of Asgard, it's definitely something you'll want to see.
Thor opens in North America May 6, 2011 and in U.S. theaters and on April 29, 2011 for the UK.
