Warning! Spoilers for Thor #16 ahead!

Thor's been having quite a bit of trouble with his iconic hammer Mjolnir as of late, but in Thor #16 he may have finally found a suitable replacement. One could argue the plot point of Thor struggling with his hammer has been overplayed over the last decade. His issues started back in 2014 in Original Sin #7. The original Nick Fury whispered to Thor that Gorr the God Butcher was right in his hatred for gods, leading to Thor feeling unworthy and dropping the hammer. He lost his name and worthiness for years and the hammer itself was destroyed during this time. In 2019's War of the Realms #6, the two were finally reunited when Thor regained worthiness and re-forged the hammer to end a war.

Unfortunately for Thor, the honeymoon was short-lived. About six months later, Thor feels the hammer becoming heavier again in 2020's Thor #1. Soon after, there are times when he can't lift the hammer at all. Yet others who are definitely unworthy of Mjolnir, even his brother Loki, can. Casual fans will likely remember Thor's hammer troubles extending to the MCU as well, beginning in Thor: Ragnarok when Hela shatters Mjolnir. Making up for the repetitive plot, though, is the consistently stellar quality of the comics and films that have been derived from the premise. Nevertheless, it may be time for Thor to move on from his trusty hammer.

In Thor #16 by Donny Cates and Michele Bandini, King Thor travels to Earth to speak to Captain America about his troubles with Mjolnir. After a short discussion, he leaves the hammer with Steve Rogers. The hammerless Thor is on a casual stroll with Jane Foster, now Valkyrie, when the two come across the Wrecking Crew wreaking havoc. The Wrecker throws his crowbar at Jane who dodges it and makes quick work of him. Thor catches the crowbar and gives the Wrecker a knockout blow. What makes the moment important though is that the Wrecker's crowbar is not just any tool, it is imbued with Asgardian magic.

Thor Wrecker Crowbar

The Wrecker obtained his supernatural abilities when Karnilla accidentally enchanted him when she meant to enchant Loki. Although the Wrecker himself is the source of the power, much of it is channeled through the crowbar and contained within the crowbar. He uses it in battle much like Thor uses Mjolnir. It's a powerful blunt weapon and can return to him after he throws it. Similar to Mjolnir, the crowbar can change whatever the Wrecker's wearing back into his purple and green costume. The crowbar also has a laundry list of other unexpected abilities. It can do things like create earthquakes, absorb and project energy, and create illusions. With his trusty crowbar, the Wrecker has been able to hold his own against Marvel heavies like Thor and the Hulk.

Thor has used a few weapons as replacements for Mjolnir before, most often his axe Jarnbjorn. Even though it's unlikely Thor will be walking around with a crowbar for good, the weapon may actually be Mjolnir's most suitable replacement. With how often the hammer has been acting up, it would make sense for Thor to at least hold onto it for a while. Readers will see if Thor finally solves his Mjolnir worries and learns to be king of Asgard as Donny Cates and Michele Bandini's Revelations arc concludes in Thor #17.
