Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson clarifies recent comments she made about Valkyrie's powers. One of the most anticipated movies of 2022 is Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth solo MCU film centered on Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder. Directed by Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi, the new film is set for release in July, where it landed after multiple release date changes caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to Hemsworth, Thor 4 will star Thompson, Christian Bale, and Natalie Portman, who returns as Jane Foster for the first time since 2013's Thor: The Dark World.

Though much has been revealed about its impressive cast, the plot details for Thor: Love and Thunder are still being kept tightly under wraps. Waititi has teased the film as unexpected and emotional, which has undoubtedly contributed to its place as one of fans' most anticipated MCU films. Most recently, Thompson caused a stir online when she commented on Valkyrie's powers in an interview. Many interpreted this to mean Valkyrie would have her comics accurate powers in Thor: Love and Thunder, but the actress has cleared things up.

In a recent post to her Instagram Stories (via The Direct), Thompson stated she wasn't talking about Thor 4. Instead, she was referring to the things she's read and loved from the comics. Thompson also said she wouldn't be revealing any spoilers, like a true Marvel vet. Her full comment is as follows:

"In talking about Valkyrie to W Mag, I was talking generally about powers that are canon and that I loved in reading the comics and not Thor: Love and Thunder. I shan’t be a home for spoilers."

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie

In the interview, Thompson discussed Valkyrie's ability to transport people to Valhalla and even revive them. The prospect of seeing these powers in action in Thor: Love and Thunder was exciting and even seemed to hint at some story details. However, Thompson has now shown fans shouldn't get their hopes up about this. She didn't mention Thor: Love and Thunder during that portion of the interview, so it's clear she was just looking back on the reading she's done for the part.

Though she might not have her comics accurate powers in Thor: Love and Thunder, Valkyrie is still bound to play a major role in the film. She was last seen in the final moments of 2019's Avengers: Endgame, when Thor abdicated and made Valkyrie king of Asgard. Little is known about how Valkyrie will have settled into her new role, but Thompson did tease the king needs to find her queen. The character's bisexuality will get explored in Thor: Love and ThunderEven without enhanced powers, it's clear Valkyrie will have a lot on her plate in her latest big screen adventure.
