Five of the MCU’s most powerful characters were teased in the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. As powerful as Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher is sure to be, there are numerous cosmic beings out there who could even more dangerous than he is. However, most of them haven’t been fully revealed yet.

Various Marvel movies and shows have confirmed that the MCU is loaded with powerhouses. Thanos, Hela, Odin, and Scarlet Witch are all counted as some of the strongest characters ever to be encountered in the MCU. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to introduce even more. And given the plot, Marvel adding more top-tier characters in Thor 4 makes plenty of sense. After all, the movie’s villain is targeting gods. As a result, Thor: Love and Thunder’s story will officially introduce Zeus (Russell Crowe), who is considered the Greek pantheon’s equivalent to Odin. He may not be alone either, as several other gods from Marvel Comics are expected to attract Gorr’s attention as well.

A shot in the second Thor: Love and Thunder trailer hints at the existence of five god-like beings in the MCU. At the 1:48 mark, viewers can glimpse statues that are clearly meant to resemble Uatu the Watcher, Death, the Living Tribunal, and Eon. As for the fifth statue, it appears to be Infinity. Each of these five characters are supremely powerful cosmic lifeforms that have existed for thousands – if not millions – of years in Marvel’s world. Each has a special purpose that they serve in the Marvel Universe. For instance, Infinity controls time itself, and Death can manipulate reality as she pleases while also maintaining balance in the multiverse.

Thor 4 Jane powers up in teple

Marvel already revealed how powerful one of these characters is in the MCU. Introduced in Marvel’s What If…?, the Watcher demonstrated his physical capabilities by going up against a version of Ultron armed with the Infinity Gauntlet. The fact that the other characters are included alongside him in the trailer speaks volumes about their power levels. Death, Infinity, and Eon could all be on par with him. As for which one is the strongest of them all, it would be easy to assume that title belongs to the Watcher after what he did against Ultron in What If…?, but the comics support the idea that he’s actually much weaker than the Living Tribunal.

In fact, the Living Tribunal could very well be the strongest character in the entire multiverse. In the comic books, he had authority over most cosmic beings and was shown to be strong enough to easily obliterate a Watcher. Teased with Easter eggs in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange, and now Thor: Love and Thunder, there’s a good chance that the MCU version shares his comic counterpart’s reputation. And with all the large-scale threats that have emerged as of late, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the Living Tribunal and his peers finally reveal themselves.
