Thor: Love and Thunder trailer is sure to skip Super Bowl LVI. Because of a long-running trend with MCU releases, some are hoping that February 13 will be the day when fans get their first glimpse at Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, Gorr the God Butcher, and Thor’s latest team-up with the Guardians. However, the Super Bowl isn’t the right time for Marvel to drop its first look at Thor’s next adventure.

It’s common (and expected) for movie studios to release trailers for their upcoming movies during the Super Bowl, which is without question the biggest sporting event in the United States. Marvel is one of many to use the Super Bowl as an outlet to market its movies and TV shows. Over the years, Marvel has used the Super Bowl to debut trailers for several of its biggest movies. On some occasions, it’s even released more than one preview during the same game. For these reasons, expectations are high for Super Bowl LVI, which has the potential to unveil trailers for a number of highly anticipated 2022 films.

With a planned release date of July 8, Thor: Love and Thunder is within the proper window for a Super Bowl trailer, but that doesn’t mean Marvel is ready to release it just yet. It’s important to note that it’s currently in the process of marketing two other MCU installments, Disney+’s Moon Knight show and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With both on the horizon, Marvel dropping the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer as early as February 13 would be a big mistake. When it’s juggling multiple projects in a short timeframe, it’s sometimes necessary for Marvel to partake in some level of cross-marketing, but three is a bit too much.

Thor love and thunder feature

For the time being, the move that would make the most sense would be for Marvel to keep the attention concentrated on Moon Knight and Doctor Strange 2. Adding Thor 4 to the mix would be needlessly distracting. After all, the movie is still approximately 140 days out, which means Marvel has plenty of time to give Thor 4 its fair share of the spotlight. Admittedly, the first trailers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Widow, and Eternals were all released 136, 150, and 160 days ahead of the movies, respectively. But in the case of Thor 4, Marvel has enough on its plate right now that it doesn’t need to look that far ahead.

Of course, none of this is to say that Marvel will skip Super Bowl LVI altogether; it just means that Thor: Love and Thunder won’t factor into its plans. Audiences have much better chances of seeing new looks at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Moon Knight. Given that Marc Spector isn’t an established MCU hero or a household name yet, a second Moon Knight trailer airing during the Super Bowl is a much safer bet than Marvel showing anything beyond Doctor Strange 2.
