Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor is armored up and ready to fight in a new Thor: Love and Thunder image. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel marks the first major appearance of Portman's Jane Foster since Thor: The Dark World, with the actress having elected to depart due to disinterest in her character's arc. With Taika Waititi at the helm for the recent Thor movies, the star was ultimately convinced to come back for the rom-com-influenced superhero sequel.
Thor: Love and Thunder sees Chris Hemsworth's titular hero going on a journey of self-discovery by retiring from the superhero business, only to be drawn back when Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher emerges with the plan to kill all gods. Thor must team up with Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Waititi's Korg and Portman's Jane Foster, who recently became the Mighty Thor and has reconstructed Mjolnir, to defeat Gorr. Thor: Love and Thunder is gearing up to release in July and audiences are getting an exciting new look at the film.
With just a few weeks remaining until the film hits theaters, Total Film has released new Thor: Love and Thunder images. One photo gives the best look yet at Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor armor as she wields a rebuilt Mjolnir while another sees Chris Hemsworth's titular hero aboard the Guardians of the Galaxy's Milano. Despite the initial mixed reception to the character in early films, audiences have been eager to see Portman's return to the MCU, especially since the reveal she would undergo her Mighty Thor transformation for Thor: Love and Thunder. Waititi has helped build further excitement for Portman's return with his discussion of how he convinced the Oscar winner to return to the fold by promising to completely reinvent the character the same way he did for Thor in Thor: Ragnarok. Thor and Jane aren't the only characters from the Thor movies to get an overhaul in the MCU as Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis returned in WandaVision having received her doctorate in astrophysics and becoming her own boss unlike the comic relief nature of her character in the past.
The new Thor: Love and Thunder image should keep anticipation high for Portman's Mighty Thor, giving the best look yet at her armor as well as her buff physique as the hero. The image also offers a good look at Jane's rebuilt Mjolnir, which audiences have been eagerly awaiting the answer as to how she came across the destroyed hammer from Thor: Ragnarok and how she rebuilt the legendary weapon. The wait for Portman's MCU return is nearly over as Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on July 8.
