A new piece of fan art for Thor: Love & Thunder imagines what Gorr the God Butcher could have looked like if Marvel Studios followed his appearance in the comics. Thor: Love & Thunder is the next film in MCU's Phase 4, reuniting Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi with Chris Hemsworth for the character's fourth solo film. In addition to Hemsworth, the sequel will feature the Guardians of the Galaxy, the return of Jane Foster as Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, and Christian Bale's Gorr.

Gorr the God Butcher is a new character coming to the MCU and was first introduced in the comic book Thor: God of Thunder #2 in 2012. Ten years after his debut, Gorr is making his first live-action appearance but with a very different design from the comics. The villain looked more like an alien in the comics, but Marvel has decided to give Gorr a more humanoid design and keep the actor recognizable. Instead of giving Bale's character an intricate design, Gorr has pale skin and a few scars, a decision that has been criticized ever since first looks began leaking online.

Gorr the God Butcher's new appearance may have fans divided, but bosslogic has now given him a comic-accurate makeover. The artist's first piece gives Gorr his tentacles from the comics, while the second piece shows the villain wearing a hood. Both of bosslogic's artworks can be seen below:

While the first Thor: Love & Thunder trailer didn't reveal Gorr, the latest trailer finally gave the first official look at Bale's villain. Gorr is getting a complete redesign for the movie, but his story does seem to be following the comics. Gorr seeks revenge on the gods after his family is killed, and he prays for their help. The character looks to have the same motives in the movie, with Gorr saying, "the only ones who gods care about is themselves." The trailer also revealed All-Black the Necrosword, which in the comics, was created by the God of the Symbiotes, Knull. Gorr is likely drawing his power from the sword in Thor: Love & Thunder, yet it's possible Gorr's final form has yet to be revealed if Marvel decides to take some creative liberties with the Necrosword's powers.

Many have criticized Gorr's MCU design, but others have found it refreshing due to Marvel's slew of CGI villains. Bale is an Academy Award-winning actor, so not covering his face in prosthetics or CGI will truly allow his emotions to shine through. Gorr's design still looks menacing despite not being comic-accurate, and Bale's performance will undoubtedly make the villain's threat believable. It's unknown if Thor: Love & Thunder will be as successful as Thor: Ragnarok, but the sequel may prove that not all MCU villains need to be comic-accurate to be memorable.
