As reported by ComicBook, during the latest episode of FatMan Beyond, Smith and co-host Bernardin discussed Waitit's Phase 4 Thor adventure, where Smith shared his reaction to the film. When discussing his film, the director compared Love and Thunder to Thor: Ragnarok, praising the latter as a film that defied any expectations he had. As such,  Smith stated he felt Love and Thunder lacked the same element of surprise Ragnarok brought due to his experience with the prior film. Despite his criticisms, Smith stated he enjoyed the film, though he did find issues with the Guardians of the Galaxy's brief role, as well as the main plot. Check out Smith's reaction below.

"Thor Ragnraok was an absolute f*@#ing discovery, and something I was not expecting. I went into Thor: Love and Thunder with a certain amount of expectation – based on, of course, what I was given before – and I got exactly what I thought I would get coming. But of course, the element of surprise isn't quite there like it was last time.

That being said: a f#@!ing devastatingly entertaining Marvel movie. Adorable, fun. The only things I bumped into, storywise: The Guardians were gone so fast... The other big thing I bumped into was the main plot [laughter]."

While Love and Thunder's humor and new characters were praised on social media, the film has seen an overall mixed response from critics following the film's premiere. Accumulating a score of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes through verified critics' reviews, Love and Thunder received criticism for its story, with many stating that they felt the film's tone was inconsistent and unable to balance its more serious moments with its humor properly. Waititi recently defended his use of humor in his approach to Thor, sharing a comic panel that displayed that the character could be humorous as well as heroic.

While Smith has continued to create films such as his upcoming Clerks 3, the director's career and love of film, TV, and comics have led to him becoming a prominent and vocal voice in pop culture media. As such, many fans of Smith's work, as well as dedicated MCU fans, may be keen to hear what the director thought about the latest MCU installment. While Smith's critiques of Thor: Love and Thunder closely align with other reviews, it is interesting to hear that he nevertheless found enjoyment in the film.
