Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans hilariously reacted to the Guardians of the Galaxy's very short screen time in Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor: Love and Thunder premiered on July 8, 2022, and has received mixed reactions from viewers in general. The film sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) form a team with Jane Foster/the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Korg (Taika Waititi) to face the threat of Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Thor dives into this next adventure despite feelings of uncertainty he has about who he is and what his purpose is.

It was confirmed prior to the film's release that the Guardians would have a role in Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor and the Guardians' team-up was set up in Avengers: Endgame, when Thor appointed Valkyrie as King of Asgard and decided to travel with the Guardians for a while. The Guardians, with the exception of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), all appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, some fans were taken by surprise when the Guardians exited the film almost as quickly as they were introduced and did not re-appear.

Users took to Twitter to react to the Guardians' very short screen time in Thor: Love and Thunder, and most of their reactions are hilarious. Many users poked fun at Guardians' short screen time and rapid exit from the film. Others, though, were genuinely upset that the interaction was so brief after a Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy crossover was perfectly set up. Check out their reactions below:

While some of the reactions are hilarious, most of them make a good point about the surprisingly brief appearance from the Guardians. James Gunn has indicated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will take place after Thor: Love and Thunder. Since Thor and the Guardians already went their separate ways in Thor: Love and Thunder, there won't actually be a proper Thor and Guardians crossover. As a result, there is definitely some confusion about why Marvel set them up for a crossover to merely regulate the Guardians to a cameo. While the cameo ends up working well for the direction that Thor: Love and Thunder ultimately took, it still doesn't sit well with fans who were expecting them to have a bigger role in the film. After all, with viewers knowing for months that Guardians would be there and the Guardians being featured in the trailer, it isn't difficult to see why many were expecting something more from them.

Ultimately, while many are bemoaning the fact that Guardians and Thor didn't have a proper crossover, it was likely for the best. Including the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder's story would've made the movie way too overstuffed. Additionally, Gunn is the one accustomed to directing the Guardians, not Waititi. Waititi is a masterful director, but it's unlikely he could've exactly matched how Gunn directs the Guardians, and viewers likely would've noticed differences in the portrayals. Viewers who enjoyed the plot of Thor: Love and Thunder, will see that the Guardians really couldn't have remained for more screen time without disrupting the events and direction of the storyline. Hence, while it is disappointing that Thor: Love and Thunder crushed the hope of having a proper Guardians and Thor crossover, the Guardians' inclusion as a cameo kept them from distracting from the main events of the film.
