The Guardians of the Galaxy return in Thor: Love and Thunder, but the movie can't answer the team's biggest mystery from Avengers: Endgame. Marvel Studios linked Thor and the Guardians together during the conclusion of Phase 3. After a brief team-up in Avengers: Infinity War, the end of Avengers: Endgame saw Thor leave Earth with the team. This allowed Taika Waititi to use the Guardians of the Galaxy in Thor: Love and Thunder, as Chris Hemsworth's god of thunder will work with them. It was an exciting development that came as a result of the team's solo adventures being pushed back, but one which also means audiences must wait to learn the answer to a crucial Guardians question.

Thanks to the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, there have now been a few glimpses of the adventures that Thor and the Guardians will partake in. Despite the large presence they have in the trailer, it is not expected that the cosmic group of unexpected heroes will be around for the majority of the film's runtime. Their roles might be smaller than some might hope, but Thor: Love and Thunder will still surely help propel the Guardians of the Galaxy's stories forward after Avengers: Endgame.

However, this won't include answering the team's biggest mystery: the location of Gamora. Despite dying in Avengers: Infinity War, Gamora returned to the MCU thanks to time travel in Avengers: Endgame. After she betrayed Thanos again and helped fight The Mad Titan's army, the movie surprisingly left her fate ambiguous. Gamora is missing at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame with Star-Lord shown searching the planet or galaxy for her. This is quite easily the biggest Guardians mystery from the Phase 3 event film, but Thor: Love and Thunder won't be able to answer it. The search for Gamora is expected to be part of the main story for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, meaning Marvel won't solve this mystery in a movie where the Guardians play supporting roles.

Thor: Love and Thunder not answering the mystery of Gamora's missing state could hamper an otherwise fun appearance by the team. This wasn't always Marvel's plan, though. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally meant to kick off Phase 4, which would've allowed the MCU to answer the massive Avengers: Endgame mystery quickly. Once James Gunn was fired (and later rehired), the delays that came to the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie changed Marvel's plans. This led to the team becoming part of Thor: Love and Thunder's story out of necessity, as the MCU had to explain how Thor and the Guardians will split after Avengers: Endgame.

Instead of revealing why Gamora is missing or where she went after Avengers: Endgame, Marvel could now use Thor: Love and Thunder to set up the answer to this mystery. The Phase 4 movie will surely tease the Guardians' next adventure, as the trailer already showed them leaving Thor behind. This could be because he has his own mission to take care of, while the Guardians want to find Gamora at long last. Thor: Love and Thunder could provide a tease of Gamora's location as a result, but finding out where she is likely something that is being saved for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 instead.
