Warning! Spoilers ahead for Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder's final battle with Gorr shares an identical moment with Thor's final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Despite being armed with his new ax Stormbreaker, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) brought Mjolnir with him from the past to use during Endgame's climactic Battle for Earth. As such, it created one of Endgame's best moments, now perfectly replicated in Love and Thunder.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is chosen by a reforged Mjolnir to become the Mighty Thor. Joining the Son of Odin in his quest to take down Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, Jane and Thor are reunited while also being aided by Korg and King Valkyrie. However, their first battle with Gorr didn't end well and the Asgardian team was forced to retreat. Jane was also hospitalized due to Mjolnir sapping the strength she needed to fight her cancer diagnosis. This motivated Thor to face Gorr on his own in the film's final act.

During this final confrontation in Love and Thunder, Thor starts to lose. Gorr nearly kills the God of Thunder with Thor barely able to keep the God Butcher's Necrosword from piercing his chest. As such, this mirrors Avengers: Endgame where Thanos almost killed Thor with his own ax. Likewise, both shots are framed and filmed the same way where Thor is saved thanks to a surprise attack from Mjolnir flying in from the left and returning to the hand of a worthy hero (that isn't Thor).

Gorr and Thanos Prove Thor Isn't The Only Worthy MCU Hero

Jane Foster Mighty Thor with Captain America wielding Mjolnir in Avengers Endgame

Both scenes with Gorr and Thanos epically achieve the same results. Firstly, they prove that the Son of Odin is hardly invincible. He can be killed and can't save the day on his own. However, they also show that Thor isn't the only hero worthy enough to wield Mjolnir. Endgame finally paid off Age of Ultron's tease that Captain America was worthy of the hammer and power of Thor, coming at the perfect time to save Thor himself. While Jane became the Mighty Thor at the beginning of Love and Thunder, she continues to prove herself worthy by saving Thor with Mjolnir just like Steve Rogers did. Her worthiness is further proven through her willingness to put her own life on the line by picking up the hammer again.

Love and Thunder's callback to one of Endgame's best moments is a really cool Easter egg that could be missed in the midst of the final act (especially with Jane's decision to continue fighting regardless of the consequences). However, the connection made between Thor's respective battles with Gorr and Thanos is one of the more dynamic and noteworthy moments from Thor: Love and Thunder's final battle. Apparently, the concept of Thor being saved by someone else wielding Mjolnir was so good it had to be done twice.
