The Disney+ streaming release date for Thor: Love and Thunder has been revealed. After directing 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, which was a big hit with audiences and critics alike, Taika Waititi returns to the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder. The latest Thor adventure sees the return of Chris Hemsworth as the eponymous Norse god, with the character forced to team up with his ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), to defeat Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher. Thor: Love and Thunder has been more divisive than Thor: Ragnarok, earning mixed reviews for its confused tone and over-reliance on humor.

Thor: Love and Thunder released in theaters on July 8, opening with an impressive $144.2 million at the domestic box office and recently passing Thor: Ragnarok. Although Thor: Love and Thunder has largely not been received as well as Thor: Ragnarok, the film has struck a chord with many viewers, drawing praise for its handling of Portman's Mighty Thor storyline and Bale's captivating villain performance. For those who enjoyed Thor: Love and Thunder and are looking to experience it again at home, the film's streaming release date has now been revealed.

Thor: Love and Thunder is one of many premieres happening on the streaming service that day, including Pinocchio and the Frozen and Frozen 2 Sing-Along, among others. With a Disney+ streaming release date now firmly set, it's worth noting that Thor: Lover and Thunder's theatrical window is noticeably longer than that of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Doctor Strange sequel was released in theaters on May 6 and premiered on Disney+ on June 22, giving it a theatrical window of 47 days. Despite Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness having a significantly shorter window before going to streaming, the film performed better than Thor: Love and Thunder at the box office, earning $955 million globally compared to Thor's $737 million.

It's unclear why Thor: Love and Thunder's theatrical window is longer, but Disney could be giving the film more time to earn at the box office, especially since its weekend-to-weekend drops have been quite significant. It's also unclear if this longer theatrical window will become the norm for MCU movies in Phase 5 and beyond and if audiences can expect to wait longer before Marvel films go to streaming. Regardless of the reasoning behind the decision, those who enjoyed the film will surely be happy to know that there's now just over two weeks before they can watch Thor: Love and Thunder from home.
