A deleted scene from Thor: Love and Thunder shows Star-Lord and Mantis trying to convince Thor to join the fight. After the success of 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, writer/ director Taika Waititi returned to the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth's fourth standalone entry as the titular God of Thunder. The film sees Thor team up with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster/ Mighty Thor and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) to take down the ruthless Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Despite earning more mixed reviews than its predecessor, Thor: Love and Thunder has been a significant hit at the box office.

As shown in the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth's character goes on a journey of self-discovery in the latest film, attempting to find inner peace after years of being a superhero. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the beginning of Thor: Love and Thunder sees Hemsworth's hero still tagging along with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The film's opening minutes show Thor adopting a more peaceful way of life before electing to help Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the other Guardians take down an enemy force on Indigarr.

A new deleted scene from Thor: Love and Thunder, shared courtesy of AV Club (uploaded to YouTube by Geeky16), shows a different version of the lead-up to the battle on Indigarr, with Star-Lord and Mantis attempting to convince a meditating Thor to participate in the fight. The scene, which is titled "Wasted Time," sees Mantis attempt to use her abilities to convince Thor to fight, with the telepath providing a brief glimpse into the hero's state of mind when she says, "Many he loves perish, he feels their blood is on his hands." Ultimately, Thor is convinced to fight only at the thought of Star-Lord getting to take all the credit for the victory. Check out the deleted scene below:

The latest Thor: Love and Thunder deleted scene follows a scene released last week showcasing a cut moment involving Russell Crowe's Zeus. Like the Zeus scene, "Wasted Time" features Waititi's signature brand of humor, blending emotion and internal sadness with silly sight gags and awkwardness. While many fans were happy to see the Guardians of the Galaxy show up in a Thor film, the heroes' role is ultimately smaller than most expected, with the superhero team departing the film shortly after the victory on Indigarr.

It's not clear why the scene was cut, but it's possible that Waititi felt the version of the interaction that ended up making the final film was better for pacing reasons. Thor: Love and Thunder has been confirmed to feature a lot of improvisation between cast members, and it seems like "Wasted Time" might also have a healthy dose of this, especially toward the end of the scene when Thor, Star-Lord, and Mantis are mounted on Stormbreaker. With Thor: Love and Thunder confirmed to release on Disney+ later this week, it won't be long before fans can watch the film again for themselves and compare the deleted scenes with what ended up making the final cut.
