Warning! Spoilers ahead for Thor: Love and Thunder.

A new piece of Thor: Love and Thunder concept art reveals a look at an early version of Natalie Portman's buff Mighty Thor. After the success of 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi returns once more to helm the recently-released Thor: Love and Thunder. The film sees the return of Chris Hemsworth's titular Thor, seeing him gather a team of heroes to face off against the MCU's newest villain, Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher.

After first appearing in 2011's Thor, Portman is back for Thor: Love and Thunder as Jane Foster, a renowned astrophysicist. The character previously appeared in Thor: The Dark World and showed up briefly in Avengers: Endgame, but Thor: Love and Thunder puts Foster front and center like never before. This time around, Jane, who is suffering from stage 4 cancer, becomes Mighty Thor only while wielding Mjölnir, Thor's old hammer, and dons an epic, Norse-inspired suit of armor. Although reviews for Thor: Love and Thunder have been mixed from both audiences and critics, many have praised the new, stronger version of Foster that appears in the film, after she was previously limited in earlier appearances due to her mortal human form.

In a new piece of concept art, artist Andy Park shares a look at an early version of Portman's buff Mighty Thor. Park writes in his caption that he drew the piece about 3 years ago for Waititi, and the result is surprisingly close to what ended up in the final film. The helmet, the cape, the suit of armor, and even Portman's muscles seem to all have translated to the screen during the production of the film. Check out Park's concept art below:

Thor Love And Thunder Natalie Portman Jane Foster Concept Art

MCU films like Avengers: Endgame and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness feature characters with suits that were added in post-production because their designs hadn't been finalized during filming. The concept art above, however, suggests that Thor: Love and Thunder didn't have this problem with the design for Mighty Thor. Filming on Thor: Love and Thunder is believed to have started in early 2021, meaning Portman's Mighty Thor look may well have been finalized far in advance, with Park's timeline putting the concept art's creation around the summer of 2019.

With both Thor and Thor: The Dark World struggling to make Jane feel like a powerful player in each film's respective story, her transformation into Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder finally put the character on even ground with Hemsworth's Thor. Although some have called attention to the poor quality of the CGI used to create the battle helmets for both Thor and Mighty Thor, much of the rest of the costume seems to have been created practically, right down to some of the smaller details featured in Park's concept art. Mighty Thor's impressive costume and character design, combined with Portman's performance and buff appearance, helped to make Jane a standout player in Thor: Love and Thunder.
