Despite his great MCU fame, Chris Hemsworth’s core personality has not changed since making the original Thor movie in 2011. Since Thor was released, Hemsworth went from being a relatively unknown Australian actor to being a huge superstar, going on to receive three more solo Thor movies, as well as appearing in all of the Avengers movies. Hemsworth now stars in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, the Taika Waititi-directed followup to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Hemsworth also might be in for even more Thor films following Thor: Love and Thunder. Though five (or more) solo films would be unusual for any Avengers offshoot, both Hemsworth and director Waititi have teased future Thor storylines. Though Love and Thunder has been rumored to be Hemsworth’s last Thor film, the actor has reportedly said that he would not do a Thor film without Waititi directing. While Waititi is a busy creator between producing upcoming seasons of What We Do in the Shadows and making a new Star Wars movie, the director’s recent enthusiasm towards the potential of new Thor storyline possibilities prove that he might sign on for another Thor film, likely drawing Hemsworth back into the role.

But even through his growing popularity, Hemsworth’s castmates still view him as the same old guy who debuted the God of Thunder back in 2011. In an interview with Screen Rant his co-star Natalie Portman explained Hemsworth has still maintained his genuine kindness and work ethic amidst all his talent and grand success. Portman also stated that even in the first Thor film, before “he was as known as he is today,” Hemsworth “came with so much talent and confidence and presence.” Check out the full quote from Portman:

[Chris] came with so much talent and confidence and presence, even before he was as known as he is today. He was so incredible immediately.

And then just to see 10 years later that he's had so much success and so much popularity, and he's still such a genuinely kind, amazing, hardworking, and obviously incredibly talented person? It's really a beautiful, beautiful thing to experience.

Thor 2011

It seems like Hemsworth replicates Thor’s lovable personality in real life. Hemsworth certainly has a charming comedic presence in interviews and promotional videos, so it comes as no surprise that this is his personality off-the-camera, acting “genuinely kind” to his co-stars. When looking at Hemsworth’s career path, it is additionally interesting to hear Portman describe Hemsworth as having this “talent and confidence and presence” even in his early career. This likely led him to be noticed and cast in some of his early roles, including a smaller role in J.J. Abrams Star Trek, where he was called back despite initially being turned down for his audition for Captain Kirk. This presence and immense talent of course also led him to be cast as Thor, a character that has defined his career for the last ten years.

Whether or not Hemsworth will continue to play the God of Thunder in potential future Thor films, the actor’s immense talent and ability to succeed in big blockbuster film roles will undoubtedly lead to future great successes for the actor, even outside of the MCU. Besides Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth’s upcoming films include Extraction 2 and George Miller’s Furiosa. With these roles, Hemsworth will surely grace his co-stars on every set with his genuine kindness that he has maintained throughout the last 10 years.
