Brett Goldstein reveals that he only had two weeks to prepare for his Hercules cameo during the post-credit scene for Thor: Love and Thunder. After the success of 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth re-teamed for Thor: Love and Thunder. The most recent Thor adventure has earned mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics, with many praising the return of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and the introduction of a new villain into the MCU in the form of Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher.

During one of the film's more memorable sequences, Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) travel to Omnipotence City to request help from Zeus (Russell Crowe) to defeat Gorr. Zeus, however, isn't what many may expect from the ancient Greek god, and he and Thor end up butting heads. Although it seems like Thor kills Zeus, the film's first post-credit scene reveals that not only is Zeus alive, but he's looking to get revenge on Thor by way of his son, Hercules. The scene then cuts to a shot of a very muscular Goldstein as Hercules before the end credits for Thor: Love and Thunder resume.

In a new interview with The Playlist, Goldstein reveals that he only found out he got the role of Hercules two weeks before he was due to film his scenes, giving him not much time to physically prepare. The actor claims that, on the day of filming, he did 400 pushups and jokes that he "was fit to explode" from all the working out he was doing. Check out Goldstein's full comment below:

“Yeah, when I spoke to Taika, I said, ‘You know I’m basically like a skinny comedian?’ I said, ‘When is this filming?’ It was like in two weeks, and I was like, ‘I mean, I’ll do my best, but two weeks feels …’ I said, ‘He doesn’t have to be as big as Thor, does he?’ And look, on the day, I mean, I’m doing 400 pushups that day. I was fit to explode. I did the best I could on that day, yeah.”

Considering Hemsworth works out for months in advance of his MCU appearances and Portman previously revealed she had a 10-month training regimen for Thor: Love and Thunder, Goldstein's two weeks preparation time makes his physical appearance all the more impressive. Although Goldstein's appearance is incredibly brief, Hercules could be crucial to the MCU moving forward, meaning the actor certainly has to look the part. Despite how big a role Hercules could come to play in future Thor installments, Goldstein's comment suggests that including the character in the film may actually have been a last-minute decision.

Although two weeks isn't really enough time to get into full demigod shape, most fans would likely agree that the actor pulled it off. Thor: Love and Thunder ends with the promise that "Thor will return" (much to Hemsworth's surprise), meaning that a showdown between the two characters certainly could be in the cards for the future. Next time Goldstein appears as Hercules, however, the actor will hopefully have more than two weeks of training.
