Thor: Love And Thunder has the distinction of holding the record for the shortest window between the first trailer and the release of the movie but the wait is over. The first trailer for the movie is finally here and it's full of things for MCU fans to obsess over. The trailer for Thor: Love And Thunder reveals some major things about the movie, including what seem to be flashbacks to different periods of Thor's life.

The trailer also reveals a trip through different realms and worlds, including what is likely Olympus with a tantalizing image of who may be the Greek god Zeus. One of the most interesting reveals from the trailer is a teasing glimpse of a restored Mjolnir in the hands of Jane Foster. Jane is now Thor and fans will be scrutinizing the trailer until the movie comes out to try and figure out how this happens.

Flashbacks

Thor runs through the woods in Thor Love And Thunder.

One of the biggest reveals from the trailer is that fans may be going back in time in the upcoming movie. Flashbacks seem to be in the cards as the trailer opens with a sequence of Thor running through the woods and aging from boy to a man as he does.

Thor is seen first as a young boy and then last in one of his earliest costumes in the MCU, a classic look based on one of the best Thor costumes from Marvel Comics. The flashbacks could be Thor reflecting on his life as seeks peace and a new way of living.

Classic Marvel Homage

A young Thor wears his classic comics costume in Thor Love And Thunder.

The flashbacks not only throw back to Thor's MCU costumes, but the trailer reveals one of the best references to classic Marvel Comics yet. In the middle of the sequence, a young Thor is wearing a pitch-perfect version of his classic Marvel costume from the comics.

The costume was designed by the legendary Jack Kirby, and his costume for Thor first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #83, one of the essential Marvel works by Jack Kirby and also one of the most significant comics in Marvel history.

Someone Close To Thor May Die

Thor plants Stormbreaker in the ground in Thor Love And Thunder.

One of the biggest reveals from the Thor: Love And Thunder trailer suggests someone close to Thor may die in the movie. Early in the trailer, Thor plants Stormbreaker in the ground in a fashion of a headstone and then he walks away.

Thor may be simply putting the powerful weapon aside as he contemplates the next chapter of his life, but he is seen using the ax throughout the trailer in various ways. Either he leaves it at the end of the movie for the next worthy person to wield, or he is paying tribute to a fallen friend.

Pirate Thor?

Thor kisses a blue haired woman in Thor Love And Thunder.

A curious reveal from the trailer hints at a very different life for Thor. A woman with blue hair swings onto the deck of Thor's ship and the two then share a passionate kiss. Thor very much seems a pirate in this brief sequence given the context.

The sequence is hard to parse as there are a few different boats in the trailer, including one led by goats leaving new Asgard, certain to belong to Valkyrie. Thor could be on a different planet or perhaps even in a different reality than the main MCU universe.

God Killer

Thor and Korg look upon a dead god in Thor Love And Thunder.

One of the most striking images and biggest reveals from the trailer is Thor and Korg looking upon a massive dead creature. This is a god and this shot is taken almost directly from a comic book storyline that surely influences the movie featuring a god killer.

The God Of Thunder storyline from 2013 introduced Gorr the God Butcher, the villain of the movie (unseen in the trailer). That story followed Thor at three different times in his life, trying to stop Gorr as he kills various gods throughout the past, present, and future.

Zeus Rules Over Olympus

Zeus rules over Olympus in Thor Love And Thunder.

One of the classic gods who may be in jeopardy in the movie is Zeus. The trailer for Thor: Love And Thunder reveals a figure who is likely Zeus - he's holding a thunderbolt as he often does in classical art - ruling over what appears to be Olympus.

Zeus likely also signals that another figure from Greek mythology and Marvel Comics lore is in the movie. His son Hercules is one of Thor's strongest allies in the comics, and one of the strongest members of the Avengers as well.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Return... But No Gamora

The Guardians of the Galaxy appear in Thor Love And Thunder.

One of the biggest reveals of the trailer is that the Guardians of the Galaxy return in the movie but not Gamora. All of the Guardians are present in the trailer (until they leave Thor behind on an alien world) but Gamora is nowhere to be seen.

A variant of Gamora survived in a moment many saw coming in Avengers: Endgame. But her absence at least from the trailer is surprising, suggesting that she may be on her journey ahead of her return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Valkyrie Is Bored

Valkyrie appears bored in Thor Love And Thunder.

Valkyrie only makes a brief appearance in the trailer, but the shot says a lot. The trailer reveals that Valkyrie may be bored in her new role as King of New Asgard. She appears disinterested during a meeting of some type of council.

Valkyrie may be longing for adventure or romance or maybe both. That could lead her back to Thor, who is off in the universe, or perhaps to another Thor who is likely already on Earth and may have a lot of questions about Asgardian lore.

Mjolnir Is Restored

Mjolnir is restored in Thor Love And Thunder.

It had been known that Jane Foster would return as Thor, one of the most powerful versions of Thor in the comics, but the trailer reveals an interesting surprise. She's wielding a restored Mjolnir, which Hela had destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok.

The mystical Asgardian hammer was left in pieces in that movie but seems to be whole again with Jane. Power seethes through the cracks in the hammer and one of the biggest questions of the movie will be how it was put back together.

Jane Foster Is Right Out Of The Comics

Jane Foster wields Mjlonir in Thor Love And Thunder.

Jane Foster's stint as Thor in the comics from the fantastic 2014 run by writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman is a major inspiration for the new movie. The trailer reveals that Jane's version of Thor is right out of the 2014 storyline.

Jane's iconic costume is reproduced in the movie to the letter, including her distinctive face mask. Jane's true identity will likely be a mystery in the movie as it is in the comics, where no one knows she is Thor until deep into the run.
