The age of Jason Aaron's Thor may be ending, but he's saved the best for last. After years of build-up, King Thor will finally do battle with his brother Loki... as the final fight to ever be waged in Marvel's Universe. While the devoted Thor comic fans will know all about Old King Thor, and his brother the Symbiote Loki, more casual fans may not appreciate just how epic this final showdown is really going to be.

While Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic were telling their present day Thor adventure, they offered glimpses of how Thor's story would end. And it was always the same, and always mind blowing-ly epic: the aged, one-eyed King Thor vs. the mighty Loki clutching All-Black the Necrosword, the weapon made of the first symbiote. The final two gods at the end of time, when almost all other life in Creation has faded and died. Fans will finally get to see how the fight plays out in not one, but FOUR issues, starting in September with King Thor #1. And luckily for the god of thunder... he won't be alone.

When we say that Aaron has been teasing this bout for years, it's not an exaggeration. Even the shocking tale of Thor absorbing Wolverine and the Phoenix Force to become the last true God in Marvel's Universe was a set-up to this endgame. Now that the cover art for King Thor #1 has been revealed by CBR, it appears that Thor's mighty granddaughters--Frigg, Atli and Ellisiv--will continue their loyalty to their King until the very end. But this is a fight Thor must settle himself.

Knowing the fight is coming isn't the same as actually getting to watch it play out. So all things considered, a four-issue fight isn't even all that surprising. When Thor fought Wolverine at the end of time, the result was a hammer storm consuming entire worlds and a Phoenix that spread wider than whole galaxies. So when Thor, master of the Thorforce AND the Phoenix Force faces Loki, merged with the darkness that birthed the universe... there's no limit to what's in store. While we ponder the possibilities of what comes after the final fight in Marvel's Universe, millions of years into the future, interested readers can check out the official details and plot synopsis below:
