Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Thor #30

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Thor, the God of Thunder is likely facing a future showdown with both Thanos and Doctor Doom. Embarking on a mission to rescue his sister Laussa who was kidnaped by Corvus Glaive, Thor and the Valkyrie known as Runa have come to an ancient and forbidden battlefield on Niffleheim. This is where Thor's grandfather Bor once fought the Mad Titan himself in search of the Black Infinity Stone, though it appears another villain has been searching for the major new power as well.

In the new Thor #30 from Torunn Grønbekk and Nic Klein, Thor is having to reconcile the fact that Bor had his sorcerers create a dark and devastating weapon capable of harnessing the powers of life and death, the result of which created a massive magical explosion that killed thousands. Likewise, it seems as though Thanos himself was present during this ancient battle and even fought Bor, helping confirm the former King of Asgard's connection to the Seventh Infinity Stone. However, the end of the issue sees Thor opening a vault that only those with the blood of Bor can open, despite the protests of Odin whose spirit still resides with Thor's hammer. Likewise, Doctor Doom is alerted to the vault's opening, suggesting that he too has a vested interest in securing what is likely the Black Infinity Stone for himself.

Thanos and Doctor Doom In Marvel's Thor #30

Connecting back to the very first arc of this current series (which began in 2019), the God of Thunder has been trying to prevent the dark vision Thor was granted by the Black Winter. In it, Thor saw several of his fellow allies and Avengers as undead zombies, and all of them were being led by Thanos. Likewise, the Mad Titan was seen wielding Mjolnir in one hand with all the Infinity Stones embedded in the head while also wielding a black gauntlet and presumably the Seventh Infinity Stone in the other.

Unfortunately, it certainly seems like Thor is threatening to make the future he long feared a reality now that he's opened Bor's vault. Likewise, the surprising involvement of Doctor Doom won't help things in the slightest, existing as the sinisterly balanced master of both science and magic. As such, Thor may soon find himself caught in a major brawl between two of the Marvel Universe's biggest villains.

While one could argue that Thor could just let Thanos and Doctor Doom duke it out and then take on the winner, he'd be running the risk of one of them gaining the power of the Seventh Infinity Stone which seemingly grants its wielder the power over life and death itself. As such, neither villain should ever have such as powerful weapon at their disposal. Thor #30 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
