Warning! Spoilers for The Death of Doctor Strange: The Avengers #1 ahead!

After their latest bout with one of the most powerful forces in the multiverse, Thor and Captain Marvel prove that they are stronger than Thanos. More specifically, the current comic book iterations of Thor and Captain Marvel are stronger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Thanos. The proof is in the pudding as to the Avengers’ superiority in strength when they swiftly overcome a force in the comics that Thanos was nearly defeated by in the films.

In The Death of Doctor Strange: The Avengers #1 written by Alex Paknadel with art by Ryan Bodenheim and Rachelle Rosenberg, the Avengers are reeling from the mysterious circumstances surrounding Doctor Strange’s shocking death. Since Doctor Strange is the guardian of the realm, his death has opened many doors to other mystical worlds, one which opens up during the issue. Through the portal, multiple Juggernaut-like beasts powered by the magic of Cyttorak emerge, wreaking havoc on downtown Miami. When the Avengers come to the rescue, Thor and Captain Marvel power through many of the Juggernauts with little effort in their destruction, a feat of strength Thanos proves he is not capable of completing.

In the MCU film Avengers: Infinity War directed by the Russo Brothers, a portion of the Avengers accompanied by Doctor Strange along with the Guardians of the Galaxy challenge Thanos on his home world Titan. During their battle, Marvel’s heroes take turns laying into the Mad Titan in an effort to steal the Infinity Gauntlet from him before he can use it to extinguish half of all life in the universe. When the heroes finally pin Thanos down, and come so close to pulling the gauntlet from his hand, it is one spell that Doctor Strange uses that is the most effective in their efforts, and that spell is the Bands of Cyttorak.

MCU Thanos struggles to break free of the Bands of Cyttorak and fails in his efforts in the end, whereas Thor and Captain Marvel destroy the Juggernauts who have been given their strength through the same magic that makes the Bands of Cyttorak so strong to begin with. There is a potential difference in the power given to each of the Cyttorak attacks. The Bands of Cyttorak are meant to restrain and that is their only function, whereas the Juggernauts that fans see in the comics are meant to destroy, potentially leaving them more vulnerable to attacks. However, given that the power of Cyttorak has consistently been synonymous with indestructibility with the Juggernaut being the prime example, the Bands of Cyttorak and the Cyttorak-powered Juggernauts should have the same indestructible properties.

Assuming that the Cyttorak-powered Juggernauts are just as indestructible as the Bands of Cyttorak, Thor and Captain Marvel are easily stronger than MCU Thanos. However, given what fans saw of the Mad Titan in the film, it is unclear whether or not the two godly Avengers could beat him in a one-on-one fight even though they have already proven they are physically stronger. But by breaking through the indestructible magic of Cyttorak, Thor and Captain Marvel prove they are stronger than MCU Thanos
