Warning! Spoilers below for Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3 below.

Two of the most powerful weapons in the entire Marvel Universe are going to collide, as Thor and his hammer Mjolnir are about to take on Black Knight and his Ebony Blade. In a new preview for Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3, Marvel Comics is teasing an epic battle between the God of Thunder and the Black Knight. However, it doesn't seem to be Dane Whitman who Thor will spar with, but the original Black Knight, Sir Percy.

While Dane Whitman is the most popular version of the Black Knight (Kit Harrington will play him in the upcoming Eternals film) Marvel Comics has had three heroes use the moniker. The first, Sir Percy of Scandia, debuted in 1950 in Atlas Comics (pre-Marvel Comics) in Black Knight #1 and was created by Stan Lee and Joe Maneely. The Nathan Garrett version debuted in Tales to Astonish, before passing the mantle down to Dane Whitman in Avengers #48. All three versions of the hero wielded the Ebony Blade, a powerful sword forged by Merlin that's recently been revealed to be one of the strongest weapons in the known universe.

Marvel Comics recently revealed the Ebony Blade works much differently than previously believed. Originally, the sword was believed just to corrupt whoever uses it, but the Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade series has revealed it actually feeds on the negative emotion of the user, as it's pretty much the exact opposite of Mjolnir that the wielder is unworthy. Thor even tried but failed to lift it - but noted "the more unworthy his mood, the mightier the blade, 'tis the very opposite of Mjolnir." Now, in new previews for the third issue of the series, the Ebony Blade and Mjolnir will collide as worthy meets unworthy.

The new preview shows Thor facing the Black Knight, but it's not Dane Whitman (unless he stole Sir Percy's helmet). It appears the issue will take place sometime in the past, as Thor's armor also seems like his more retro look. Although, that could just be a stylistic choice for this particular cover.

Marvel's revealed few details about what's to come next, but what seems for certain is Thor's hammer Mjolnir and the Ebony Blade are going to collide in dramatic fashion. The question is, who will win out? Can the worthy hammer-wielder take down the unworthy swordsman? It certainly appears like things are about to get epic between the two ancient heroes. Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3 is in stores on May 19, 2021.
