A brief moment in Thor: Love and Thunder showed how Marvel Studios could combine Eternals 2 and Thor 5 into a single event movie. The cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a bit of an uncertain future as the Multiverse Saga continues. Sequels to Eternals and Thor 4 are not guaranteed or even confirmed to be in development, leaving audiences in the dark about when Chris Hemsworth's Thor or any of the Eternals will return. Instead of continuing to have these cosmic characters exist in separate corners of the MCU, Marvel could tie their futures together thanks to Thor: Love and Thunder.

Marvel introduced Omnipotence City, the home of the gods, in Thor: Love and Thunder. The location had a surprise reveal that the Celestials that created the Eternals interact with other major deities. The appearance of two Celestials in Omnipotence City creates a bridge for Marvel Studios to bring the Eternals into the Thor franchise. While there may have been plans for Eternals 2 at some point, there has been no indication that the sequel is part of the MCU's immediate future. Instead, Marvel could combine the sequel with a potential Thor 5 to make a movie featuring the Eternals, Thor, and Hercules.

Eternals In Thor 5 Could Give Marvel A New Civil War

Marvel putting the Eternals in Thor 5 could give the MCU a new Captain America: Civil War-style event movie. Thor: Love and Thunder's ending sets Hercules on a mission to kill Thor and remind humanity of the Olympian gods' power. There is room for Marvel to expand on this mission, though, and bring the Eternals into the fold. Since Thor nearly killed Zeus in Omnipotence City, there is a chance that Zeus and the Olympians are also less revered among the other deities present. This could include the Celestials, opening the door for Hercules and the Olympians to also fight them and the Eternals they command.

The Eternals also being caught in the wrath of Hercules and the Olympians could then pave the way for Thor 5 to have them play a significant role in a war between the Celestials and Marvel gods. Thena, Makkari, Starfox, and Druig could team up with Thor to take on Hercules. There is even the potential for the other Eternals to factor into the story in surprising ways. Arishem could reboot their programming or create new versions of dead Eternals like Ajak, Ikaris, and Gilgamesh to fight in this war. With the gods and Celestials at the core of this cosmic war, Thor 5 could be a huge event for Marvel.

Love & Thunder's Disappointment Could Prevent Thor 5

Thor love and thinder hemsworth return

As fun as Thor 5 happening with the Eternals could be, Thor: Love and Thunder's disappointing reception could prevent a sequel from happening. The movie received very mixed reviews from critics and failed to make more than Thor: Ragnarok at the box office. It seems that the likelihood of Thor 5 happening is trending in the wrong direction, especially as Chris Hemsworth indicates he is ready to leave the MCU. Unless Thor 5 becomes his swan song or centers on a different version of Thor, such as Jane Foster or Beta Ray Bill, the Eternals 2 crossover movie might not happen now after Thor: Love and Thunder.
