A photo taken on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder confirms Valkyrie will return for the Phase 4 Marvel film. Tessa Thompson made her first appearance in the role of Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, made her second appearance in Avengers: Endgame, and will now reprise the role in Thor 4.

Love and Thunder began filming in Australia in late January of this year, and the first set photos revealed Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in full costume, as well as Chris Pratt as Star-Lord. The film, which will see Taika Waititi return as director and the voice of Korg, is reportedly assembling an ensemble cast that will feel like a fifth Avengers movie, making it one of the most anticipated Phase 4 films Marvel has planned so far. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn were all seen arriving in Australia to begin filming and reprise their respective roles.

Now, Thompson has confirmed she'll be back for Thor 4 by updating her Instagram story with a picture of her actor’s chair labeled “Valkyrie.” The photo was captioned simply with “She’s back,” seemingly referring to Valkyrie’s return in Love and Thunder. In early January, Thompson said she would be leaving for Australia in a few days where she will have to undergo two weeks of quarantine before she can begin shooting. With this timeline in mind, these set photos seem to indicate that Thor 4’s production is going according to plan. Check out Thompson's set photo below:

Christian Bale will also be joining the cast as the villain Gorr the God Butcher, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will return and wield Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor, and Matt Damon will likely return for another brief cameo. Even though we know Valkyrie is coming back, it is unclear exactly what role Thompson’s character will play in the movie. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Valkyrie was appointed by Thor as the new ruler of Asgard, so her storyline in Love and Thunder will definitely be picking up there.

It is also very likely that Valkyrie’s storyline will include her search for a queen, as MCU head Kevin Feige said in 2019. A deleted scene from Thor: Ragnarok revealed a quick glimpse of a woman leaving Valkyrie's bedroom, heavily hinting that she is LGBTQ. Thompson has also stated explicitly that her character is bisexual, based on Valkyrie's relationship with Annabelle Riggs in the comic books. Valkyrie's sexuality is expected to be explored more thoroughly in the next installment. With these themes being explored, along with the unbelievable ensemble cast, Love and Thunder is shaping up to be the most ambitious Thor movie yet.
