The rivalry between Thor and Star-Lord from Avengers: Endgame will continue in Thor: Love and Thunder, confirms Chris Pratt. The upcoming sequel will be Chris Hemsworth’s fourth solo outing as the God of Thunder and Taika Waititi's second as writer/director after 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Thor 4 will also bring back a few more characters from the previous Thor films including Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), the newly crowned King of Asgard, and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who will make her first appearance in a Thor film since 2013.

The Phase 4 film is expected to pick up where Endgame left off, as the God of Thunder boarded the Benatar to travel with the Guardians of the Galaxy while Star-Lord comically ensured that Thor knew who was in charge. Ever since the pair first shared the screen together in Avengers: Infinity War, the tension was palpable and the potential for comic relief was immediately apparent. With Thor 4 set photos confirming the Guardian’s involvement in Love and Thunder, fans are looking forward to this dynamic continuing into Phase 4.

Now, during the promotional tour for his upcoming sci-fi film The Tomorrow War, Pratt confirmed that the rivalry between Star-Lord and Thor will continue in Love and Thunder. Speaking with Yahoo!, Pratt says once they found the dynamic between the two was a hit in past Avengers movies, Waititi wanted to continue playing off it during their next team-up. Read his full quote below:

That was definitely something we found while we were doing the Avengers and people seemed to like it. So Taika had a vision for it and I think people are really going to like what we did. I think people are really gonna like that. And it picks up on that same vein, that same kind of rivalry between the two.

Pratt made sure to clarify that this rivalry between the two characters doesn’t extend to anything personal between their real life counterparts. Having just wrapped production on Thor: Love and Thunder, Pratt had nothing but praise for his MCU co-star, saying, “Hemsworth is great, he’s so good. People are gonna be really astounded when they see what he’s brought, what he and Taika have brought for Thor 4. It’s next-level.” Pratt isn't the first to praise Waititi's latest Marvel offering, since the stars offered early reactions to the script before filming began, with Hemsworth calling it "insane" and "brilliant." But this is further encouragement that the Ragnarok follow-up will continue the God of Thunder's story in compelling fashion.

Though the Guardians are not expected to play prominent roles in Thor 4, this entertaining rivalry will be developed further, according to Pratt. Love and Thunder will likely pick up soon after Endgame concluded, following the Asgardians of the Galaxy for a bit before they go their separate ways. It seems that Thor will then embark on another solo adventure, once again running into Jane Foster. Still, if Thor and Star-Lord's rivalry and comedic chemistry continues to be a hit in Thor: Love and Thunder, perhaps a full-fledged crossover film could be in the cards.
