New Thor: Love and Thunder set photos reveal Jane Foster's look before becoming Mighty Thor and Natalie Portman filming a levitating scene. When Marvel Studios announced the fourth Thor movie at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the biggest surprise to come with it was the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. She hasn't filmed a Marvel Cinematic Universe film since Thor: The Dark World, even though unused footage was repurposed for Avengers: Endgame. The return of Portman as Jane Foster was made all the more exciting with the reveal that she'll wield Mjolnir and become Mighty Thor.

Jane's transformation into Mighty Thor is one of many reasons why Thor: Love and Thunder is so highly anticipated among MCU fans. There is also a lot of curiosity surrounding what her story will be. The comics saw Jane become Thor after she was diagnosed with cancer. However, the power that came from Mjolnir and her Thor transformations made her chemotherapy ineffective. Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has yet to confirm the cancer storyline will be kept for Jane, leaving fans to wonder how she'll appear and look in the movie.

In a new batch of Thor: Love and Thunder set photos from Daily Mail, Natalie Portman has been spotted filming the MCU blockbuster for the first time. The scene appears to take place at New Asgard with Jane curiously examining something unknown but presumably of great importance considering the Asgardian guards stationed around her. Jane noticeably does not resemble the character's look from the comics when she has cancer, as she still looks quite healthy. In one the photos Jane also appears to be levitating somehow, though whether through her own power or some other means is unclear. These set photos could be seen as a sign that Thor: Love and Thunder is not including Jane's cancer storyline. Portman indicated in the past that this would be included in the movie, though, so there could be more to these images than how they appear at first glance. Marvel routinely has great VFX and has done wonders in de-aging, aging up, and digitally manipulating actors' looks. They could create Jane's weakened look in the movie in a similar fashion as to how they used CGI to pull off Tony Stark's frail look from the start of Avengers: Endgame.

As filming continues on Thor: Love and Thunder, it will be interesting to see what else they reveal about Jane's story and her well-being. These images show that she's going to visit New Asgard at some point, and Tessa Thompson's presence on set could indicate Jane and Valkyrie will spend time together. This scene could even potentially be where Jane gains the power of Thor potentially, as Portman is shown levitating in the air.
