New fan art for Thor: Love and Thunder shows off the Asgardian in his new costume. Recently, leaked set photos showed Chris Hemsworth in the God of Thunder's new costume. Production on Thor: Love and Thunder is kicking off in Australia and the expansive cast is all gathering to shoot the film. In addition to the return of Hemsworth, most of the Guardians of the Galaxy are back. Also back is Natalie Portman as Jane Foster who will be taking on the mantle of Mighty Thor in the new Taika Waititi-directed film.

Christian Bale is playing Thor: Love and Thunder's villain, Gorr the God Butcher. Matt Damon has also been cast in a mystery role. While plot details are under wraps, it's expected to follow the Mighty Thor comics arc, the one in which Janes Foster becomes the titular character. Waititi seems to be following through on his vision for Thor after the acclaim he received for his idiosyncratic take on the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok. This could potentially include Thor's mythical goats after they appeared on set in the new leaked photos.

In a new post from ultraraw26 on Instagram, Thor can be seen in action in his new costume. In the art, Thor is wielding his new axe, Stormbreaker. Harnessing his lightning powers, Thor looks ready to strike while wearing his red leather vest. Thor is also sporting the long locks he was seen with in Avengers: Endgame.

The new 80s-inspired look is perfect for the world Waititi has built for the solo Thor films. After the first two films left fans uninspired, Waititi breathed new life into the character with his irreverent, refreshing vibe. The director looks to be doing the same with Thor: Love and Thunder, which has been described as very romantic and extremely silly. It will also be refreshing to see Thor again after his controversial characterization in Avengers: Endgame. Many thought that the arrival of Fat Thor signaled a disregard for Waititi's own characterization of the God of Thunder.

The art also teases the perfect Guardians nickname for Thor: Thunderstrike. Thor's interactions with the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame seemed to signal a possible return to the old Thor and Thor: Love and Thunder seems to be returning to Waititi's wacky world. The Guardians of the Galaxy's presence in the film is a good sign of things to come, as Waititi's blend of surrealism and humor is the perfect mixture of Thor and the Guardians' newfound friendship.
